Just curious to know how the twin carb EA81 would go compared to the usual say 89 era single carb 81 does .

I had a twin carb factory setup in a wagon with a 3.9 dual range box all of it was imported (engine and box not the car) and it was a fantastic little setup to the point I wish Id never sold the car or at least the motor.

when I got the engine the welch plugs in the heads were suspect, so I pulled them off and sent them to be skimmed and re-plugged, when i bolted it all back together I was getting 90kmh safely out of second gear (100 once but the valve bounce was horrific)

an impressive little engine considering it was over head valve

Yeah the Twin Carbies are the go! If you get / can get a set grab them and hold onto them! They are fantastic.... I have been in 2 brumby's with them and have been very impressed to say the least.

Also not that Twin carbie EA71 (1600cc) have a slight different width intake manifold and won't work.

Also look out for dual port heads, these are outright awesome.... I have a set and can safely pull 80km out of 2nd gear with a tuned 32/36 weber but i would love Twin carbies to see what it is really capable of!!!!! They just scream, and the power difference is huge but surprisingly the fully consumption isn't that bad at all either (round 1 l hundred around town).

I saw a twin carb, reverse port head in a white Brumby years ago, inspiring my twin carb and manifold search. Recently saw a mature woman driving it and thought better not to play with her in the traffic. She was pushing along rather strongly suggesting motor still in there. Me in GLTM so could not even give her the Brumby wave.

Disco and coxy get along quite well. Gotta suspect something here, but coxy has a Brumby so guess that is where it finishes.

Helped carry that engine into the surgery a few hours ago so yeah we get along fine .

Very interesting looking divided/individual exhaust ports but what a shame they didn't have individual inlet ports like EA82 MPFI heads have .
There's every chance they could have made EA82T horsepower in a lighter more compact engine - and no pesky cam belts to break .

I Emailed Gannon some pics of those carbs and the head Coxy removed from the twin carb EA81 . Maybe he can upload them and add a link here .

If you can wait a few days I should be able to look at the carbs and see if they have any distinguishing marks on them .
Coxy suspects that these TC 81s having been a Japanese home market engine may have a bit higher CR and warmer camshaft than the usual EA81 engines . The specs for them are very hard to find and a factory WSM covering them would be interesting reading . These donks give us the impression that they are similar to the EA81 turbo engines head wise though obviously without the cast in injector mounting bosses . What he wouldn't give for the turbo heads and inlet manifold ...

All the spud family cars are EFI now so carbies are a bit of a novelty these days .

Cheers A .

I think Subarino might still have a set of twincarbs on a manifold ready to bolt onto an EA81. I remember he put them up forsale years ago but dunno if they got sold.

I had to cringe when Lee told me he left his twin carbed maybe the good heads to, at a mates place. The cringe came when he said he thought it had been crushed since!

There was a twin carb EA81 engine complete on Ebay a few days ago...sold yesterday for $300 with only one bid (with the rare heads and overhauled twin carbys). Congratulations to the new owner. I discovered this when I rang to make an enquiry - luck does not seem to be on my side? :(

I'm now starting a search for twin carbs to fit to my Brumby (photos posted previously) which I am restoring and preserving as best I can. See my post in the "WANTED" threads. The carbs are to go on an EA81 with only 25 000km on the clock.
