Distributor Problem?
Distributor Problem?
I have a 89 Brumby EA81 and I think the vacuum advance on the dizzy doesn't work. Any suggestions on how to check it and also where can I get a new dizzy or a vaccuum advance diaphram, (if it has one).

the easiest way to chek if the vacuum advance is working is to take the top off the dizzy and remove the rotor button, so you can see the advance arm where it attaches to the base plate then using a long piece of vaccum hose attach to the vacuum advance and suck on the hose if there is movement on the arm the advance is working no movement the advance isn't working as for a replacement go to the wreckers and find an old wagon with a points dizzy and steal the vacuum advance off that (as long as it works) they are the same

Take the top off so you can see the rotor, then unplug the vac line and hook up a plastic syringe (like the ones for giving animals and children medicine)
They fit vacuum hose perfectly

Close the syringe before hooking up the hose, then while watching the rotor, slowly pull the syringe open and watch the rotor rotate.

As we can see here, Gannon was just a little slow off the mark, by about 60 seconds - don't you hate that? Should you have a dicky cannister and cannot get a good one, new may be available ex Japan, cost you three toes etc. There is also a guy http://www.advancediaphragmoptions.com.au or something like that who can rebuild one for about $80. May be two d in address as in advanced diaphragm
