lol, another example of somebody completely confused by Subaru naming conventions when it comes to "L series". I know Liberty starts with L....but common.... :)

I know, whenever I have to call roadside assistance or go to an autoparts store I say "L Series" and they just go quiet for a minute and then go .......is that some kind of liberty *Sigh*

Yeah, on that note, how come we called them 'MY' and 'L' series? why aren't they refered to as like AB5 or AX7 like the imprezas and libs? I have always wondered if 'MY' series was something that was dropped once at a swap meet or in an online forum and stuck like WAIC and FMIC did... I said it ("I want some parts for me' MY mate") at subaru once and I got looked at like I had just asked my parents what the spaces inbetween the teeth on a comb are called. I know 'L series' was on the cover of the L owners manual, but my "MY" users book have "MV" on it... I know I just use it (MY) because people here know what I mean. Belinda from the Subaru Shop at Brendale was a big 'MY' series dropper, and I think that is where I originally heard it.

But yeah, sorry about the hi-jack - RX turbo prepared rally car on ebay. It's good people spot these things and post them up!

I've heard that MY stands for Model Year so many times but no one can ever explain how a MY00 tells me what "Model" it is???

I am hanging for the answer on the comb question!

Yeah, never seen an OEM reference to MY for the MY lot. But yep got owner manual with MV for Brumby and as Giles1111 knows them as in the UK. I gues someone got in first and called them MY. And I guess MY00 is the model built in 2000,and if a model change occurs within the VIN it may be MY00 built n late 1999

Wonder if he is related to Russel Coyte. Wonder if it would pass normal rego? Recall one rally dude years ago with one of these told me it was always in low range 4WD for rally purposes, no wonder the box had a rebuild!

Well yeah, MY00 means a 1999.5 make car, but doesn't identify the model. That's why they say "MY00 liberty" or "MY02 Bugeye"

I would love to run a poll here to stop the whole 'MY' model thing, while I'm at it I might click on over to boostcruising or VLcalais.com and ask what the best engine oil is :)

(BTW, I have no idea what year bugeyes were)

Bug Eyes built from late 00 until to late 02..........My01 & MY02
Craps me when you guys talk about MY as I only know L Series because my kids have had a few, I presume the "MY" is the model before the L with the curved dash ????????

Hi Folks!
I am reliably informed that MV (as we know em here in the UK) simply stands for Multi-purpose Vehicle. Brumby or Brat kinda works better me thinks!

Yeah.. MV is the little utilities (as you know we refer to them as Brumbys over here) but over here MY usually refers to the Subaru Wagon, Sedan and Coupes that were manufactured between 1980 to 1984 after that the "L" model ran from 1985 to 1994.

But I do like the rally car

see...we need a sticky intro to the fleet with links to examples. Don't forget the series before the MY (I describe the MY as the Brumby shape) that were more square boxy and started to put subies on the road here with - they are sometimes refered to as the Ugly Series. The Ugly also had a ute, but dunno if Brumby was used to market them. Then there is the two door fastback? style Ugly in FWD here, 4WD Japan - first? RX, we also got this one in twin carb designated the GSR (gun shot residue?) . Now, my first good impression of this series was doin' over 90mph past me on the Hume Hwy in the early 80's

Compliance wise - ADR style, the MY or rather MV Brumby is just a 'light truck'

Is that why the Brumby was discontinued in the early 90's? I heard that it was because of ADR, but I didn't realise it was classed as a light truck?

Is that true?

Reserve not yet met on the Rally RX.
