Smokey Subaru!

Hey all,
Today i finished building my subaru

.
Its a Subaru Liberty '95 and had to replace the engine with another EJ22.
Finally got it working, only to find out that theres ALOT of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and a bit of water too.
Not sure if i connected something wrong orr what?
The oxygen sensor got cut so i soldered it back together but i don't think that could be the problem?
help??

nope i know it's not a head-gasket cause I replaced them both with brand new ones.

Well it sounds like your leaking water into your head some where. hence the white smoke.

could be excess water in the exhaust system from when the engine was out of the engine bay but it does sound like water is getting into the exhaust some how

have you done a compresion test on the motor since it started smoking

auto? if so and they have diaphgragm cannister on side and sucks auto fluid that burns white like water does. Are you losing water? Valve guides or stem seals checked or replaced when head gaskets done?

O2 sensors not meant to be connected with solder, just crimping devices

The real question to ask is: Have you had it up to running temp for some time (like 5 or 10 minutes)? If not, what you're looking at could be exhaust vapour - my EJ did it for some time after not being started in I don't know how long. That was also during the moist time of the year where vapours are easily visable.

I'd still check out that diaphram that steptoe mentioned.

Nah my car is manual.
The engine was put in it round about last year say... october and i've only been able to start it on tuesday... but i got the engine from a wrecker so who knows how long its just been sitting there! I'll try just letting it idle for a 10 minutes.
I've been told that when you remove the exhaust manifold from the heads, oil etc can enter into the catalytic converter and cause it to smoke and it could take weeks even to remove it completely but by then the O2 sensor would be gone?
