liberty conversion to EJ25 AWD

Post by benoz » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:13 pm

Hi there, I have a 90 gx liberty that is about to recieve a 2002 ej25 - I have that under control but I also have access to an RS turbo gearbox and I am considering an AWD conversion as well so questions are:

will my auto fwd cv's fit?

I need a rear axle (4.11 ratio) can I use an impreza one?

if I can't find a good axle can I run that gearbox as FWD in the mean time?

Will I need an RS turbo prop shaft or will any early liberty one fit?

Are there any other problems I need to know about?

Thanks
Ben

Yes the automatic CVs will fit..
rear diff you mean? yes you can use impreza diff but it has to match the gearbox but you have to be careful what RS gearbox has, some has 3.9 or 3.545.
Tailshaft, you can use RS or Liberty tail shaft, but the flange for the diff might be different (may not match)

I take it that you have FWD liberty at the moment, you will need to change the fuel tank to AWD tank instead of FWD.
You will need to change the struts and hubs in rear as well for AWD.

Really first rate info AlpineRaven thanks!

Does anyone out there know if that gearbox can be run without the rear diff connected? It might take me a while to source the rear Diff/hubs/suspension but otherwise the motor and gearbox are ready to go in now!:D

its an awesome conversion i had the 2.5 quad cam put in my fwd 92 gen2 liberty. it was like a rocket ship had cold air induction and a full high flow exhaust. never had any problems with the gear box which had 330000 on it. the only problem is i miss my baby sooo much. i had to sell it to loud for a baby on board.
l series 2" lift 27"boots s/s snorkel full roof racks.
past ride 92 lib gen2 fwd wit a 2.5 quad cam conversion custom exhaust and cold air induction.

I have the cold air intake and extractors ready to go on with the sohc ej25 engine, also considering a 75 hp Nos kit which should make it lively!
