Help needed!!!!

Hey people,

just wondered if anyone can help me here as I have run into some unexpected issues. I have just imported my 1998 WRX V-limited coupe into NSW from NZ and am having some problems registering the vehicle. I am now told I need an engineers report for the following:
  • HKS Exhaust
  • Pedders adjustable suspension
  • remote oil cooler
  • 18 inch KOYA mags - apparently too wide (he suggests I borrow a set of wheels for the inspection, but i dont know anyone with some!)
  • front mounted intercooler
  • GFB Bovis Maximus BOV (how do I get around this vent to atmos issue?)
  • HKS Pod filter
My mechanic is currently saying I will need to replace all of these parts with factory ones (except the exhaust & suspension) in order to get this vehicle signed off. Does anyone have some suggestions? I am running out of ideas and the cost is sky rocketing by the day. Does anyone have ideas about how to either a) get it done in the current state, or b) get my hands on some of these parts for a reasonable amount of money?

honestly no secrets you are farked.
theres no easy thing to do.
try to get an engineers report?? or the standard option is the only thing.
heard a story of a tuner in canberra who bought a legacy originally imported from japan, over from nsw where it was registered took him about a year of being impounded and engineer and police reports to see if it was legal ie safe/not stolen. and this was stock!!!!

There is a documented process to deal with this in NSW.

Have you had a Blue Slip done at an AUVIS place yet and failed or just been rejected and not yet paid $51.30 for the bluey ? If you have got one it should have some advice.

I have seen an Australian built Commodore come through that had a private import compliance plate on it as it had no original Australian compliance plate - it was exported to Malaysia new. It had no right to be registered in NSW until it got the compliance plate.

1300 137 302 NSW Tech enquiries are your friends. So jot down what has happened so far and have a friendly chat to them.

Your BOV must be plumb back not vent to atmosphere, so research how before going to see an engineer.

Re your wheels and tyres - find the tyre placard on door sill or glovebox - a reference book used to work this one out is by NJOY a blue book your AUVIS will have.

HKS pod needs to be 'enclosed' for noise pollution laws. many fit a fibre panel around it

Exhaust needs to pass noise test - Fed dept Environment may have a list of approved sound level measurers. Exhaust shop is a good start. 89 dB max looks good on report.

Both coolers , if non standard they are regarded as non compliant.

You need to talk to RTA- see if they can link you in to some rules on private imports, and find an engineer - your AUVIS mechanic must have read reports by local engineers and may give you a few names.

which lines were reversed? Has it filled your carbon canister?

I feel for you guy's having to deal with all these vehicle regulations. Kralle recently eluded to not being able to get away with a six stud conversion in Germany. I wonder how many other contries have similar regulations?

gee.. you're stuffed there I can understand that situation, My best bet is to join WRX forum for a help from these guys, if you were gonna ask these guys to "borrow" parts give them bond money which is more secure then they will help out by lending parts to you and change the engine to original piece. But you will have to source them in your area and if theyre nice enough to lend you the parts. Even Rims, you can get them either Liberty or other Subarus that has RWC tyres, just get 16 or 17"s not 18.
