Yes and yes, just amused that I have a westgate:). Im sure your right, translation issue. Will do on the ecu pin outs. I'll put it together and post it up.steptoe wrote:that might have been wastegate control but got lost in translation from Japanese to US English. Have you got an electronic connection at your turbo wastegate?
Mark, wanna list up your ECU from your manuals to compliment the others up in here. I had to enter as a cut and paste from wordpad to avoid getting timed out.

WGDS (wastegate duty solenoid) is a bleed off valve that compensated for low air pressures at high altitudes. As air got thinner, less air was read in the air flow meter for a give rev range and the ECU compensated by bleeding off some air from the wastegate line increasing boost pressure. Its the same solenoid that is found on current model turbos.

Ah ha, same principle duty solenoids are used to bleed of or control vacuum on some LPG set ups in Australia- lean bias using Impco gear reversing the way it was intended to be controlled. All a long long way from when jetting carburettors was possible to suit altitude, when a compromise was not enough.

MPFI and Turbo are exactly the same ECU pin outs. The only difference is that Turbo ECU's have extra wires for WGDS and knock sensor.

ok, so thinking out loud again, maybe we can get away with just adding a knock sensor and using the NA ecu???
the other thing i've read as well (in a fair few places) is that if we want to upgrade the injectors it can be done if you mod the MAF. for example, if you increase the injector size by 20%, you increase the MAF area by 20% as well.
the beauty of MAF is that the ecu doesnt care about if the engine is turbo or NA, all it looks at is the air flow (and at the same time the temperature) and the engine revs, then tells the ecu to fire the injectors appropriately, with input from the engine coolant temp and the o2 sensor

I'll post numbers tomorrow from the 89 rx-t,90 L-t auto,86 gl-t and 93 L na. While were on this subject if I want to pull an ecu from the wreckers how part number specific are they? Do I have to match numbers or be within a specific year range?, besides trans specific.
Thanks, Mark
