Reporting in from Austria
G'day All,
Been over here for nearly 2 weeks now and loving it. The skiing is great, although the overnight temps get pretty cold!
Seen a few Subarus here. Plenty of the Forester Turbo Diesels and a few Outbacks. There's even an STI getting around town with snow tyres on it. Also seen some Impressa's getting about. And a small thing called a Justy - AWD and getting along the road pretty well.
Going out to do some Ice Driving at a motorsport track this afternoon. 4WD buggies and quads, a few older cars and for a real buzz you can be a passenger in an STI or Evo with a proper rally driver. Guess which one I'll be trying to get in.....
Cheers for now,
Willie.

I wish we got the ej20g and the ej d/r 5 spd. I honestly don't know how good of a vehicle the justy was, but when the ol ball and chain and I honeymooned on Kauai a Justy was provided as our rental car. Once out of the parking lot onto the hiway I turned around and upgraded it to a new 5.0 litre Mustang convert. In all fairness the mustang could not have competed in the sand

No Subaru hire car, unfortunately. Wish we did as the hire car we have only has summer tyres on it and it has slipped around a bit a few times.AlpineRaven wrote:Awesome.. didnt know that you were over there!

The hire car is a Opel Zafira 7 seater, with a gutsy 1.7 TDi. We also purchased (lease back plan for French cars to non-EU tourists - great deal!) a Renault Dacia Logan. I think it's the cheapest car in the Renault line up, but has proven reliable and useful so far. It has a 1.5TDi and 7 seats, also. This car was picked up by the tour manager about 2 weeks before the rest of the contingent got here for his and his wife's holiday before the tour. My wife will join me at the end of the tour and we'll have use of the car for our two week holiday. Having the car for this long has bought the cost down to under AU$50 per day.
Today I saw a new model Impressa with the "Boxer Diesel" badge on the back. I didn't know you could get the diesel donk in that model (even over here)!
The most important feature to have on a car over here is good wipers and washers. With the salt they put on the roads, you need to clean the screen very regularly. Of course, I seem to have blown the washer motor due to it freezing up (even with the anti-freeze in it) which is causing concern. Just about to put in a call to the rental company service number to get it fixed.
Cheers for now,
Willie.
