ECU Upgrade for 2009 Impreza Rx

Post by OMan » Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:30 am

G'Day,

I have a 2lt 2009 Impreza Rx Auto. The car is pretty gutless. Is there an ECU upgrade for it? and what increase I could expect?

Thanks in advance.

Probably nothing that won't destroy your warranty, you could look at a Unichip if they still make them, a mate fitted one to his 02 n/a Liberty that came out of a 98 WRX I bought and got about an extra 15kw out of it with some exhaust mods thrown in.

Get in touch with the people at MRT. They are right up with this sort of thing and can retune your existing computer.

Ecutek sucks - ask anyone who has it and wants to re-tune or go a different way and see how helpful MRT is then.
Find someone who will use "Open Source" to tune you car - or if you are switched on enough, you could do it yourself.
Or import a COBB Accessport form the US.

I have spoken to a few people that have it and they are very happy with the results. I considered it myself for my 04 and would probably have gone that way if I hadn't decided on a different car.

In order to get a good tune, do you need a dyno?

I am more familiar with diesels! Tunning a diesel without a dyno is black magic!

I was taking to the guys at AMMS, they said that I may get around extra 20%power(20kw+) and about 30% if I do the exhaust as well. Are those figure any near to the truth?

An appropriately built exhaust will be of benefit to the re tune.

No, I am not looking for a WRX performance. I am just after "acceptable performance". The car is pretty gutless as it is. Even Getzs feel more powerful!
