Bottom ball Joints

Post by TOONGA » Sun Oct 18, 2009 7:56 pm

Having found some time and bottom ball joints On ebay as supercheap didn't stock them and everyone else had to order them in at twice the price ebay was offering I decided I would replace both Joints

needless to say I did the worse one first on the drivers side if I ever see the guy I bought my brumby off Im going to fit him with this

Im pretty sure this joint has done over 180000 kms as I had to remove the Knuckle from the car and use every shred of my subaru experience to get this bugger out

I kid you not there is over 3mm of play in the joint (more like dance)

so after taking half a day to do one ball joint Ive got to find time neat weekend to do the left one

oh joy

Have you got a ball joint removal tool? it might be worth the $20 to get one. Like this one because i had the same trouble the first time i did my ute ones.

It doesnt have to be long, a small one will do the job.
I use pulley puller to do the job on mine and does the job! (saves my knuckles with the hummer! lol)

yep I have a ball joint remover the missing metal is because I nearly broke the tool on the ball joint

it was that rusted tight into place I thought I was going to break the bolt out of the seat at one stage, but a slide hammer saved the day but not my wits

I got a set of those ball joints off ebay and put them in my brumby. They seem ok. I tend to be using ebay a bit more for this sort of thing, watching out for quality. It gets delivered right to your door

I bought tie rod ends from a local parts place and left the boxes in the shed. They are marked right and left. When I opened them up, they were both left ones,

The point I'm making is that EBAY is not so bad as long as you are sure the items are quality.

Yep I get that with Ebay completely Ive had some rather crap experiences buying processors from people in America I always use paypal

the parts I got are the same ones all the stores have but at half the price and

as for quality the car actually steers now and doesnt clunk every time I change gears

how long the last will depend on how well i treat the brumby :)

did the left one on Sunday morning it was as bad as the right but had been stuffed full of grease to stop the noise only took and hour and a half to get the old joint out clean the rust and crap out and grease and insert the new joint no more clunk when I take off or come to a halt

the steering feels way better now all i need is 2 new ti-rod ends and 2 new steering rack boots and my front end is rebuilt
