Carlie there is not a great deal of difference between the EA71 and EA81, so don't worry! In fact my 1974 Sedan (with a EA63 - 1400cc) is faster than my 1978 Wagon (EA81). :D

There are stories around that the hot EA71s from Japan were often faster than hot EA81s (at least before the EA81T).

We'll have to have a get together - compare engine bays - mine with an EJ (soonish) and yours with a rebuilt EA71! I think I know who'll win out in style...

Hope your little man is going for you once again!

Just a note to say that I've found an old school subaru brumby like yours Carlie - I'm getting a price on it tomorrow if anyone's interested... Should only be a couple of hundred according to the mechanic who's about to change a clutch on it.

Cheers

Hey All!!

Post by carlie400 » Fri Sep 18, 2009 12:08 pm

Wheres that subaru like mine ??? Did you get a price ??? I want it !!!! Please :p

Mine isnt back yet !!!!!! Believe it or not...
Apparently everything is done, everything was brand spankin, all back in the engine bay.. John took it out for a spin and the motor has A NOISE!!!!!
WHAT THE???
Those of you following my quickly deteriorating story can understand I have had nothing but trouble from the get go with this car and Ive almost had enough.
SO.. The story is.. right about now *looking at watch* the motor is back out of the car again.. in bits.. trying to figure out if something that has been replaced is the wrong size e.c.t...
The last and hopefully not the correct option is the crank shaft.. If it is that.. then I do believe I am in a lot of trouble and I will have to start all over again with another motor... :???:

So any ideas anyone? Keeping in mind John works his own little shop called volksbaru, hes an older man and all he does is subarus and volks... He knows his S**T and if the noise is baffling him, then it must be pretty serious....

ANYWAY.. So yeah, to answer your question alpine.. I have no idea of the bill yet !! I dont even have the car back !! I havnt seen my baby in months and months!! I miss him... I need him for the ute muster at the end of this month too !!!!

Cheers all! Let me know about that car if it's still around please ~ Carlie

Geez, that's a bit extreme! I've never heard of an engine getting a noise on its first run... sure it was the engine???

All the best with it!

PM sent too...

Cheers

Hey Guys,
John had it out and apart AGAIN, Couldn't figure out what's going on. He found 3 lifters at a wreckers (obviously not made any more) and replaced them hoping it may fix the problem. It should all be back together and I should be able to pick it up by the end of the week *fingers crossed* Wasn't the cam/crank though so crisis avoided... As far as I'm concerned now.. Noise or no noise.. He's comin home!!

Uh Oh

Post by carlie400 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 5:41 pm

OMG!!! You wouldn't believe it.. So the lifters fixed the noise as far as I can tell and John is happy with it. I picked suby up last weekend.. got home, lovin it!, no dramas!.

THEN.... I drove it to work for the first time on monday, got about 2kms down the road and bam.. no acceleration.. so im tippin the accelerator cable has either snapped or come loose/off. Luckily it was the later and after a quick drop off of tools I managed to fix it.. On the road again... Revving a little high because I havn't had a chance to adjust it yet but all the same.. no drama...

THEN.. Almost at work, decided to stop at the fuel station.. got back in the car, wouldn't start !!!! Sounded like a flat battery, so Im thinkin, my alt isnt charging my batt whilst Im driving.. No matter I waited for it to cool down and it started no drama.. So NOW.. after a discussion with John he seems to think its my starter motor.. Apparently they draw more charge when the motor is warm... So I'm on the market for a new starter and possibly a new batt just to be safe... John has some 1600 starters around the shop somewhere so when I take him back in for his 1000k tune I will get him to put in a new one of those too!!! Damn!!! Maybe Im just not meant to own a car at all....

So on the whole I will probably adjust the cable up tonight and will all be good.. as long as I dont stop anywhere when the car is warm or I have to stay there for a bit!

Apart from that it was a bit more expensive than either of us expected because turns out.. My subi has one of the very few 1600s with hydrolic lifters.. apparently the same make as the 1800 but in a 1600 and it must have been imported later on because its not meant to be in my subi! All good for me I think !!! Unless someones going to tell me about awful things that go wrong with the hydrolic 1600's. :)

So now.. I still have a bit more of a bill to pay, a cable to adjust and a batt and starter to replace... but THEN... It will be all good!!!! Fingers crossed!!!

I will be up at the DENI UTE MUSTER with him this year so if anyones headin up that way send me a msg or keep and eye out for the HEZMYN Black early subyroo ute and come say Hi!!! With of course a flag pole and some additional bling for the weekend !!!

Take care all and will keep you posted on suby's latest!!!!

Cheers!

Carlie.

Hey!
So my darling suby roo made it all the way to Deni and back No Dramas!! I re adjusted the accelerator cable before I left and my starting when warm problem seems to be getting better, slowly. May just be needing to loosen up a bit. I have done 1010kms in him now so he needs to go back for a check up very soon :-)
All good though! Suby's future is looking bright!
I did catch up with Bennie at the muster, and Tex? I think. Suby once again attracted a lot of attention. I will start a new post about the muster itself though, I'm not very happy about it this year and I have to get it out there for all the read/comment.
Keep an eye out.
Cheers!!!
Carlie.
