1993 Subaru Loyale/GL firing on drivers cylinders only

Post by lilredjusty88 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 7:33 pm

i have a 1993 subaru with the ea82 engine in it. For some reason it is only running on the drivers side 2 cylinders, before i did the headgasket job to the car it ran fine, now its not firing on those 2 cylinders, and i'm believing that its the valve lash adjusters because i didn't put them back in to there correct spot i just randomly put them in. I don't think it could be anything else because those cylinders have spark fuel and some compression from what i can tell.... any help would be greatly appreciated

random should not matter so much as getting it running, but I have had a rocker misalign on reassembly and cause it to ride on valve. with engine in place i was able to remove rocker cover, ook up under to see rocker not sitting groove on valve squarely. Give us some comp readings ? And did you use the BELT timing marks lll on flywheel and rotate once clockwise between sides for correct fit?

I'm with AP on this, I'm guessing that one of two things are not right here... firstly, check the firing order of your HT leads, they should be 1,3,2,4 and make sure you have them going in the correct rotation on the distributor... secondly, check to see that the passenger side camshaft timing gear marks are 180deg different than the drivers side, if not then you'll need to redo the timing belts.
