Unidentified underdash objects

Post by Gannon » Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:10 pm

I was cleaning out the Air con filter and installing my Rhino alarm this afternoon and i came across a few things i cant identify.

First one is the white thing shown in the photos

The second one is in front of the passenger foot well. I didnt take the metal guard off it cos it was getting dark, but it has stacks of wires going to it and feels like an ECU, but i thought that was on the drivers side.

Also, has anybody fitted an alarm to their Gen3?

I have a rhino that is supposed to connect to the factory central locking, but i need to find out if it will interface with the keyless entry controller located near the passenger side airbag

Car is a 2001 Outback Limited 2.5

I've heard that the foz has its ECU mounted somewhere near the passenger's seat, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what you've found in that area.

As for the white thing it could be an intermittent wiper something or other as I know this is where the L series unit is mounted (but the L's unit is much larger with more wires)...

Cheers

you will probably find that the funny white thing under the dash is attached to your heater and air con it looks like a thermocouple of some sort

and the other thing with all the wires is more than likely the ecu

Only way you could find out is unplug it and see what is not working...
I would check in this areas -
Power Windows
Windscreen Wipers
Lights/dash/key illumination
Key warning
ignition switch..
it might be one of above.. Its not part of alarm or immobiliser...

the thing on the removable pannel is to do with the electric windows auto reseting fuse i think

and the ecu thing could be the tcu (transmition control unit) if its an auto
edit: read wrong the tcu is normally up under the dash between the steering coloum and the heater box

White thing could just be a relay or simply a wire connector, that may be used for some specific diagnosis thingy.

The plug on the drivers kick panel is for the power windows and electric chair.
Without this plugged in the windows and chair will not function.

Also the ECU is located under the metal plate at the passengers side feet.
The ECU's where located on the drivers side steering column in the earlier model subies.
