Fair enough - very simple pop open the bonnet check it out these two pictures -
This engine is EJ25 SOHC.

This engine is DOHC EJ20 (similar layout as EJ25)

The difference between SOHC and DOHC is there is 4 cams (2 cams per side) on DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) where about SOHC has 2 cams (Single Over Head Cam (1 cam per side))
What happened to your engine - how did it seize up?
Cheers

if you have sohc keep it sohc, same with dohc. either will fit but there are probs with wiring and computers. blocks are the same you can bolt your heads on. there are differences between dohc heads at about 2000. early had inlet manifold bolts in straight line and later were staggered.
hope it helps

Double check the VIN plate. In my 92 lib its in the rear left hand corner of the engine bay next to the strut top, not sure about the outback. Otherwise It may be stamped on the engine, but may be covered by the inlet manifold? Not sure, sorry...
What'd you do to it exactly?
