Use of Hitch Stabilizer on Tribeca 2008

Has anyone had any experience on the use of hitch stabilizers on a 2008 Tribeca which has inbuilt weight levelers.
The owners manual states that "Snaking movement can be reduced by Hitch Stabilizers" however Subaru advisers state that they are not recommened without offering any reason why or what any effect their use would have on the vehicle.
