I was thinking of a fiber glass body, but then i recently found out ive got a friend who did his apprenticeship in sheet metal working, ive spoke to him and hes cool with doing a bit of it for me to cover the front body!! But there are a few main things i need to think about though is whether or not to put a roof on the sucker, i am only thing of this because if i roll it somehting could come up and i dont know KILL ME i was also trying to think of what to put over as a windscreen or something, ive got another mate who is a glazier so i could get glass or perspex for free, but i dont know!
My advice would be dont cut the floor.
Shortening the floor is fine if you are fitting a manx kit to it, but the centre tunnel is the main strength of the floor. Cut that and it is likely it can fold up. Also you have to shorten everything to do that, gear shifter arm, clutch and accelerator cables, brake lines, handbrake cables if you use them.
The whole idea of an offroad buggy is to make it light and go anywhere, it will start getting heavy if you start fitting a roof and windscreen to it, and if you did that, you may as well just use the VW body, put in a roll cage and off you go.

hmm Ok, so i figure now im not going to shorten the wheel base, because i cant be bothered fixing up the brake line. Now i am going to start welding up a frame on the back!

I know i can weld things to the angle iron i bolted down to some original holes but what about bolting something into the holes that are circled in blue, can i use that to help support my frame? they seem to be the only solid stable things!

Yeah I finally bit the bullet and dropped it in last weekend. I see what you were talking about with the fuel leaking out the carby. Gonna swap that for the carb off the old motor anyway. Only other prob I found so far was the clamp that tightens the dizzy n position had a bent bolt and wouldnt tighten up. I swapped that off the old motor as well so thats fixed. Still have to stuff around with the drivers seat mount, and secure the fuel tank. Then I need mount points for my harnesses and tidy the wiring and she is all go.D3V1L wrote:same as my buggy..the camber comes from the swing axle gearbox when its jacked up

how much for the type3 box?
i would be keen on doing the irs conversion, but the coin is extremely limited at the present moment, getting the parts could be a real prick i think

my mate Rex has two buggys going for sale very cheap in Perth .
ones a vw bug , i dont think the motor is running has wide wheels fitted
the other is some fiberglass buggy . I dont recall a motor fitted.
I am fitting a ej22 to my sand racer ( tube frame ) and a 911s gear box. I am going to flip the crown wheel and fit the motor behind the seat. I need to get the harness over to Dave to get the harness cut down shortly.
