hey guys im in the market for a liberty wagon or a forester in Manual....
just wondering what sorts of things tend to go wrong with them, ive heard foresters tend to develop random oil leaks, and when something does break on a subie they break expensively....is this true?? I'm comin from a Mitsu background, so dont know a whole lot about Boxers....ive got an old Astron motor at the moment and its piss easy to work on, so jus wondering what theyre like?
thanks heaps guys
Luke

depends what year you're talking about?
If you look after your Subaru they wont break down on you! Parts may be expensive but I think they are at reasonable price (if you were looking from Holden's point of view). Such as Subaru genuine oil filter is $12.50, I use commodore air filter. Timing Belt kit (Belt, bearings and idlers) is $199 after market.
Cheers

OK great thanks, yeah ive heard from a few people they are strong, and dont break often,
well itd be not too recent probably like 99model as im not rolling in cash haha....i do look after my cars, the inside will look like death but mechanically itll be sweet, as i said i drive an old sigma with a pretty unhealthy astron so i got used to making sure the mechanicals are in the best order they can be, as anything can let go at anytime, esp in my old bomb lol
so yeah cheers mate...ill start looking, id pretty much made up my mind, but wanted to get a second opp. cheers

I've got a 2001 Forester and haven't had a problem. They are easy to self service and spares are easily available and there is quite a strong online community for Subarus, both here and on many other forums.
My Forester hasn't skipped a bit...and believe me, she cops a lot of punishment off road. I absolutely love the car.
