l-series really good gearbox oil

Post by Alex » Mon Nov 17, 2008 3:34 pm

hey all,

just got hands on a very very very nice l-series box for cheap :)

just wondering about a really high quality oil and where to get it from in perth, i can only find the crappy castrol and stuff brands.

im also willing to pay abit for it too.

any opinions/experiences would be greatly appreciated. Also will it make much difference to the life of the box? Although i will be treating this one like its made of candy glass.

thanks heaps

How much do you want to spend........????

Cheaper option -> Castrol VMX & Nulon G70

Expensive option -> Redline shock proof......

Bursons have it....

I run Redline light weight shock proof in my sti and it loves me for it (even after all the abuse)
Really cbf wasting it on my offroaders, wouldn't hurt if you are trying to get more life from it.

Cheapest place in Aus to get Redline - http://www.performancelub.com

Its $25 per qt (1 qt = 946ml) plus the shipping.
I've seen it at Autobarn etc for $50 per qt.

Harold is a great bloke and super easy to deal with.

Also, you'll want Light Weight Shockproof.

I'd go for the Redline lightweight too, my STI box loves it but make sure you drain your old oil out for at least 24hrs before replacing it.........it doesn't like being mixed with other oils & becomes gluggy if it is.
