Looking at getting one over her in Minnesota US... (am an Aussie).. I currently drive an 04 Forester XT.. sweet.. anyhow... I am thinking about dis-regarding my plans in my 85 rx7 and throwing around the idea of an sti conversion into a Brat?? is it do-able (obviously anything is with enough time and $$$$)

Very easy to do over there get one with a turbo in it or get one and buy a turbo crossmember for it (that way you don't have to make room for the turbo up pipe) and elongate the engine mount holes, Next find an engine to fit SOHC work best without modification or just measure one and mould the chasis rails (The STI motor will be a fraction too wide to fit as standard). Make up an engine adapter plate or get one sent across (you can use the transmission from the donor vehicle but you need to get the tailshaft and half shafts modified to fit) Then its just fiddly stuff like heater hoses radiator power steering aircon etc. So if you pick the right engine it can be done quite easily or If you go the same road im taking a frustrating mess (Dont get a twin turbo) But no matter what you do the wiring is the hardest part easiest left to an auto electrician (hard to find a good one over there)...
Do a search on this site as there is no shortage of information on these conversions.
The best bet is the stickys at the top of the conversions page!

97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

Yeah the factory turbo Brat would be the one to get. Have a look around on this site for pics and info on how to reshape the front chassis rails and to replace the lower radiator support panel to fit the WRX radiator.
If you're planning STI power you might want to look at buying a complete wreck so you get all the brakes, wheels, hubs, front suspension, gearbox and rear diff (seats, dash, steering wheel, steering column) with the motor, wiring loom and ECU. Then all you need is 5 stud conversion kit and either a hood scoop or a FMIC.

Try a few of the guys on USMB, I know a couple have WRX-spec BRAT's.

Good luck on an EA81T, they are pretty rare/expensive and it would be a pity to cut one up for an EJ...
