sump gasket change

Post by subie_1st_timer » Mon Aug 18, 2008 6:27 pm

hey all

having a few dramas with the brumby of late, havent been here a while to share the issues but... one that has reared its ugly head is the sump gasket letting go.

just wondering if its possible to change it out without removing the engine?

im kinda reluctant to do it as the poor old donk is giving out big time with her burning as much oil as she is leaking but, i need to keep her ticking over til i decide what im going to do in regards to fixing her up or *gulp* get rid of it but if the sump gasket is an easy change out ill just do it.

cheers

Yeah lift the front up, get under it and go for it. Some of the bolts are a bitch to get to though.

Oh but drain it out first.

I didn't have to for mine. There are hole's in the engine crossmember (I think it was the cross member) so it gets fiddley putting them back in and you'll need and extender for your ratchet. But other than that it comes straight out without touching anything.

i love my brumby! wat a great car to work on.... i changed out the gasket and the job was all too easy.... no leaks around the gasket now but.... i have a bad feeling it might actually be the rear main seal thats gone...which im praying its not cause i really dont wanna pull this engine out for a repair like that..... but, other than that just thought id say that the sump gasket is changed and again the brumby is so easy to work on :D
