Why are there captive screw three sections? That’s what I based my thoughts on!

Looks good, or is that the sample unit you based the design from?

Yes, made a direct copy of the original :

Idea is to strip the metal parts & reuse them on the printed base where the old is past muster ... :/ ( broken or deteriorated )

You can download the file here : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1478397

Nice work Bantum, 3D printing has done so much good for the issue of old, brittle, non-existent (new) odd little plastic parts for cars and restorations.

I'm wondering, would you offer your 3D printing services for outside jobs?
The rear windscreen demister in my wagon doesn't work, I think the element is cactus. I've got an idea for a PTC heating element and a little blower fan mounted in the tailgate but would need some custom ducting/joiners to pipe the warm air to the base of the window. I'll do the design work, but I don't have a 3D printer, could I send the files your way?

Yes had thoughts of doing something like that ( am in the process of build a 3D printer ) but not looking to go into business as there are too many regulation / tax implications for me, so it will be just a 'hobby' thing done in my spare time for now ... :/

Speaking of updates, just got this to put the printer in ... :)

Is that a fume hood? Good idea...

Understood, I might have to look into getting myself a 3d printer at last! ;) Have thought about it a few times but could never justify getting one.

Yep it has several functions, helps to keep the heat in and stable & stops the fumes spreading ... ;)
( the fabric is supposedly fire retardant - yet to test it, may still need to add a filter somewhere )

Printers have come down in price too, got this for under $400 ( spent more on peripheries but )

If was doing mass produced stuff, I'd go for a more industrial type ... ;)
( they will cost more mind you )

That's a nice little lot there Bantum 8-) is that upgrades for your printer or an entirely new printer? Almost looks like stereo-lithography kind of printing gear...

Thanks, haven't got round to installing all of it yet.
BQ hot end is lighter & supposedly can handle higher temperatures ... to be mounted on one of the tool plates.
The Hermit Crab ( & tool plates ) is so I can interchange printer head with other devices like laser / cutter parts.
Idea is so I can do engraving & cutting stuff on same machine.

Have also been upgrading the power /control boards :

Whether it works or not tis yet to be determined ... :/

Will have to do some more tweaking to correct some of the errors found - bit thin in some places + clips didn't print correctly ... :/

Welcome feed back from others who have got round to printing it ... :)

That looks quite good in the pics Bantum!

How will that material fare in the cabin of a sun soaked vehicle, would it be likely to warp?

Keep up the good effort!

Print longevity ...

Depends on what its printed with - ABS, same as original - PETG, yet to be tested, but should hold up just as good if not better.
Will have to leave a sample out in the sun for a couple of years to check on suitability.
