Bidding for stuff in Japan ...

Post by Bantum » Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:02 am

So some of you are no doubt interested in the final cost of importing stuff from Japan, so will attempt to outline them here :

I'll use the example posted above to follow - The bidding process was a relatively pain free exercise & ended with a quick bid for 3,000 yen ( $30 AUS ) for one Genuine Alloy Subaru Wagon Wheel, via the Buyee site. ( Note : - You must be a member of Buyee to bid )

Next the 'seller' has to ship it to the Buyee warehouse ( After you have paid for the auction naturally ) & once it has arrived there, Buyee will put its mark up & shipping costs on to it & then sends you the damage - which in this case came in @ 12,120 yen ( $ 125 AUS ).

Add : See their web site for more details : http://buyee.jp/help/yahoo/guide/shipping-method

Once you have paid that, they then ship it off to what ever address you have requested ... ( I noted on my delivery docket that this package came via Sydney )

Then it's a matter of waiting a couple of days for it to arrive ...

So it depends on how much your willing to shell out & how quickly you want to get it here ... :D

Might make a new thread on this subject if there be interest ... :p

Cheers, Bantum ...

Cleaned ...

Post by Bantum » Mon Sep 01, 2014 2:08 pm

Ok done a bit of cleaning on this wheel over the weekend - posting the result :

Came up all right, though it does have a bit of corrosion on the back side of Wheel. Will need to take it to a ( soda ? ) blaster at some stage to clean up properly.

Also noticed it does have a very slight out of roundness ( by less than 1 mm ? ) on the back side, most likely form a kerb hit at some stage ...

It should be ok - can be fixed if it's a problem though. Probably why it was going cheap ... :p

Such hard to find unique parts can really hold up a build, believe me I know

Have you got any timeline for work to this wagon? Is it still stuck in a container somewhere? The world needs more wagons on the road ;)

Totally agree about the world needing more MY wagons! The touring wagons are parted out for doing up brumbys. I know as I’m one of them - but always from parts yards or vehicles already destined for the scrap heap. I don’t know how ppl part out a perfectly good vehicle for a few parts.

I’d like an MY wagon some day. Club rego awaits!

Looking forward to hearing about any recent work on your wagon Bantum ;)

Cheers

Long wait ...

Post by Bantum » Mon May 03, 2021 1:28 am

Yer, not much happening on the storage front as I still have to find a home for the containers ... :(
So not much will happen on the wagon till that's sorted. Should put an add up for 'Home Wanted' ... ;)
