Turbo Vortex build:)

Post by guyph_01 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 9:14 pm

Hi guys,

Well most of you know i have bought a blown engine vortex around Nov last year, and got it running thx to an engine from Paul early this year and have been using it as my daily until i finish My L series build.

The plan is to then drop a WRX engine into the car. Unfortunately the car is a 2wd and is green with the brown interior:( I always wished and wanted a AWD one and with the blue interior.

Some pic's of the 1st car.

The green Vortex was really fun to drive, got me a few "what the hell" looks but also some "very cool" looks.

But i still wasn't happy until 2day..., Yes Jules i've got two now and one is the same one as yours:p

hey mate, your vortex looks nice, are you thinking of putting the ej20, ej22 or a newer ej25 in it?
also if your not happy with your interior colour you can do what i did and change the colour, its simple but you need around 2 weeks to get it done correctly.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted :)

Yeah thats the one, she one day called me a badly needed money. Lets just say i paid a lot more than the green one:( but i really wanted a AWD white one.
Don't think i'd ever know it was so close, thx for that:D

What did you do?? how? and how much as it looks like i'll have to completely redo the interior of this one. Is it in your build thread?

The plan for this baby goes like this.

Clean the hell out of the car, fix the exhaust leak and other major issues. Figure something out for the rear windscreen, maybe a temporary plastic one and as she is still licensed get her on the road as the daily.

I did a head gasket "TK" test on her and looks like the heads are fine. Maybe think about selling the green one if the new one is as reliable. and drive it until i finish the L series and use it as a reliable daily.

Then the serious this begins:D
99 WRX engine.
Small front mount intercooler
WRX/STI seats
5 stud conversion
Cable or hydrolic AWD gearbox (Maybe use the diff lock in a gearbox in the L series and use the DCCD in the vortex) at least this way people will stop giving me shit about the DCCD in the L series.
Maybe look into a re-spray:P

I have already been collecting parts since i got the green one, they have been collecting some dust as you can see on the seats:(

Nice find but it seems to be a bit swampy inside Guy :)

should be fun to do up and it seems the white ones all suffer from the same crotch rot :)

You owe me big time then ;)

Maybe a few brumby bits would be fair reward

I will talk to you when I am down about the WRX conversion for it - I have a secret idea that will (hopefully) make it easier - and no it doesn't involve cutting up the fram of a liberty and trying to make it fit - that would be just too hard and a stupid idea as I have just found out :(

4EAT box behind the EA82T :) nice mods to the wiper control.

So when you said.. cost you more than the green one! are we talking 10 times the price?

I'd rather it goes to you than go and get crushed at the scrap yard. That Brumby was in pretty good cond apart from the front hit. but with your mad cutting and welding skills that easy fix for you:p
