need some help before i start un bolting things!..................................

im in newcastle and want to get hands on an adaptor plate and start playing..

can i get one round here or should i get some aluminium and make1?
how much does a piece of plate cost???

the motor is from an auto too, will the ecu still work running a manual driveline?

last but not least, can i bolt a 2.2 litre into a 1.8 litere car, then blue slip, see you later... happy driving?................any catches??

some other questions to come id say, any ideas?

Hi all, I'm putting an EJ22 into an L series and I want to run it on straight LPG. It would be so much easier if it had a dissy rather than coil packs, so I can throw the ECU in the bin. Anyone know of a conversion to fit a dissy?
Thanks, John.

Brumberty has done this exact modification to his Wonder Brumby (plus an SC14 but thats a different story) he used a dizzy from a Fiori but unfortunately it's a points dizzy.

Apparently there's a ford escort dizzy that fits too.

Very early impreza's came in a mega poverty pack version in some remote/3rd world countries that actually had an ELECTRONIC dizzy, theres are unbelievably rare though, you would be looking for an EJ15, 16 or 18 1995ish impreza that was never delivered to australia.

Brumberty has been looking for one of these for yonks with no real luck.

So short answer is yes it can be done.

and again, steve rising sun was the originator of the dizzy stuck on the head trick for the EJ.

I am 'contemplating' an EJ somewhere in my life on LPG. thinking ECU is a bummer and so are points. maybe there is an electronic ignition kit for Fioris ?

Prefer to go simple IMPCO stuf without ECU, next option be landi renzo with its V05 computer tacked onto ecu.

Is there a gear on an EJ cam that drives the dizzy on RH side head at the rear or is that a mod steve does ?

Should cope alright if you don't thrash it, like anything, look after it and she'll be right.

Many board members run the EJ22 with the standard box, some are even running the standard box with the EJ20G... That's the easiest way to destroy an EA box if your not careful...

Hi jono missed this the first time round, Its just a port with a cover plate, drill a hole and fit a seal.
Very simple, I can shoot a photo to you if you like.

There is escort elecrtonic dizzys available, chooks teeth though.
I have a conversion kit from points to electronic...cost me 220 smackers.
(for the Fiori dizzy)

There is even an option of quad cam dizzy access, I have an image of one somewhere, options..I love that lego.

Yeah Matt, as always, a photo is worth a thousand words. YES PLEASE, for us all .So there must be a redundant drive gear on the back of the camshaft ....

If you've got some mechanically minded mates, i don't see why not, it will be difficult at times and you may feel like giving up, but if you get through it you'd have completed a massive achievement.

I'd also look into legalities of a 2.2 ltr dropped in place of a 1.8 ltr for vic, i'd be interested to hear that you can do it - my thinking is that its 10% of the original capacity that you're allowed to go up to...

Check it out anyway, i could be wrong.

Cheers

I would not recommend it at all unless somebody else is doing it and you are just lending a hand.
If you have not done anything to a car before then a complete engine conversion isn't really a good way to start (unless you have other cars and you aren't relying on your L series as transport!).

If it's just a project car then definitely go ahead, its a great way to learn exactly how your car works.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried to fit an EZ30 H6 into an l series?

I was reading somewhere on the net that the EZ30 is not much longer than the EJ20, because the timing chain in the H6 takes up a lot less room than the timing belt of the H4, the two engines are of similar size.

Remember, they squeezed the H6 into the Liberty that was designed for the H4.

Surely somebody has thought about it.
