EJ20 gearbox options

Post by Vortex75 » Wed May 27, 2015 7:53 pm

Hey guys, seriously thinking about a ej20 conversion in my 89 Vortex and im wondering if I can keep my auto box out of the Vortex. Im not fazed by having a manual and from experience the Vortex auto box is better than the auto box on the ej20's but im worried that they are to far apart in age. Its only on thr drawing board at this stage so any suggestions are muchly appreciated.

you would need an adaptor plate to get the vortex auto to mate with the EJ20 engine.

find?? probably need to make one. EJs started coming out in 1989- you have a 1989 Vort ? Ripped off eh ? They coulda just EJ'd the Vortex for you in the factory. I think you will find the E$AT in the L's and Vorts is just experimental readying for EJ models. Not heard of anyone adapting an EJ to an EA auto ....

Damn Subaru for not putting the ej20 in. Just a standard n/a sohc ej20 would be alot better than the ea82t!

Im seriously thinking of doing it, the ej20 doesnt even need to be turbo. Ive got my eye on a ej20 out of a 2000 forester, not sure if its sohc or dohc. He only wants $400 for it.

as well as the motor you will need, the engine harness, computer and electrical/computer harness.

In the long run it would be cheaper to find a whole automatic liberty or impreza and put everything from the one car into your vortex.
