what Gearbox for a MY running a 2000 Forester ej20 ?

Post by henpecked » Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:40 pm

Ok , I've got a complete SOHC ej20 from a 2000 Forester, the cars' entire loom, fuel injection, accessories etc, and I can put it into a Brumby OR a MY Touring wagon.

So here is a stupid Question alert -

What's the best manual D/R gearbox to look for ? Do I go for an adaptor plate and use a L series D/R 5 speed, or can I fit a Forester/EJ D/R GBox and use a custom gearbox mount (got one of those already for an EJ gearbox to MY/Brumby body))?

I've searched and searched and can't find any info that makes sense re EJ series D/R gearboxes into MY's.

any help or even a "look here Stoiopid !" whould be greatly appreciated:)

I'm assuming D/R is dual range.
You don't mention 4wd as a need.
Your best bet is to get the ea82 5speed and a Liberty DR 5 speed AWD box and swap the innards around, if the lower dual range ratio and 4wd setup is needed.
Easy way is just source the Liberty DR AWD box and fit that. No adaptor plates needed to bolt to the engine, just tailshaft, gearshift, clutch pedal mod znd xmember. Also don't forget the matching rear diff.
