HELP! charcoal canister emptying fuel tank

Hi Team,

Not sure what I have done!

I have only taken the car on short runs, but several hours after running it for say 5-10 minutes the car seems to empty the coontents of its fuel tank through where I have located the charcoal canister inside the inner guard.

I am assuming that there is some type of pressure build up in the fuel tank, but how, why?

And how do I fix the stupid thing?

Have traced all fuel lines going in and out of the engine bay and they seem to be fine.

Any help much appreciated.

I have come across this before but cant quite remember what caused it.

I think it may have been from having the fuel pipes connected incorrectly.

Loosen your fuel cap after driving so it can't pressurise, dunno what's causing it though, it's supposed to be some sort of return line.

Ive slept on it an I remember it now

When we put the EJ in Subarooster's car, we had the same problem.
It was because we mixed up the return line and the breather line.

Yeah thats the reason.

Problem is that the return line on an imprezza is the same size as the breather line on the EA81.

Easy fix was to swap them over at the fuel pump at the back of the car.

All running fine now. Just need to get the newly sprayed dash back in without marking it.
