i am planning on doing a ej22 conversion the old EA81 is getting a bit old with 360 thou on the clock just abit unsure with the clutch and starter motor i am planning on keeping the on keeping the 4 speed box
im assuming that you use the EA starter motor coz keeping the EA flywheel
and how hard is it to shorten the loom

Yeah use the 4spd starter, it works fine. I had this setup in WackyBug.

Re loom, if you haven't done one before it's extremely difficult and has lots of danger of ruining the loom beyond repair. Do plenty of research and preferably employ the help of somebody who has done several successfully before before you attempt it.

i think i might just pay a freind to do it but would it be easier to do it when new engine in or with the engine out

and what clutch did you use

If you're using the EA flywheel then your going to need the EA clutch

yer i know that but does it have to be resprung or anything like that or is the standard adequate

It's always best to either buy a HD kit or if you have clutch rebuilders that can biff them up, then go for it

do you have any idea where i could a heavy duty clutch from ive found one but its only 20% more clamping force
do you think thats enough??

20% is heaps.. any more and you're going to need to mod your clutch fork

Don't expect the 4spd to last long if you're going to flog it often!

As for the wiring, you can cut it down without the engine installed. This is how I did my conversion. If you can read a wiring diagram and enjoy tracing wiring through a pile of mess I'd say give it a go - Thats how you learn, and how I did it my first (and so far only) time!
