Hey guys, anyone know if the radiator fans from a 94 EJ20T are meant to start with engine ignition or is it only / purely temperature activated from the ECU. I have been test driving the brumby around the block and idling in garage but the fans just dont seem to start and temp guage (wrx dash used) is not creeping above the middle which i guess is a good thing. Have been to the local car yard to try to determine first hand but they only have later models which was no help but fun for test driving..
Engine has airconditioning however have left this unconnected..
Thanks as always.

Fans should start up once engine reaches 90 something degrees.
Easy way to test if they are working is to connect the test plugs under your dash.
i think its the green plugs, or could be the black. i can never remember.
Try taking it for a longer drive, it idle it for about 15-20 mins.. You can always slightly increase the RPM when the car is stationary to bump the temp up quicker.
Once the needle raises above half the fans will come on

its the green plugs adam
if you plug them toghther the fans will pulse on and off at 3 or 4 second intivles when the ignition is on fault codes will also read out on the engine check light
the plugs are on the loom under the dash below the steering wheel i think

thanks guys, the fans pulsed when green wires connected so presuming all good. Guess the WRX engines are meant to run quite hot as the fans dont seem to be told to kick in and temp not creeping above mid range on dash.

Help!
just got my radiator back from the shop all ready to go and I have f#*k all room to fit it. I ordered 2x davies craig fans @51mm deep they are as thin as they come and looks like I will fit one on the drivers side after pulling the ac condensor and the alternator.
That coupled with the fact that the outlet down the bootom is way to close to fit any hose on to.
Advice would be great about now?
Do I move the whole drive train back?

ok.
So can the fans fit on the front?
Looks like there is enough room. What if I am using the standard plastic bumper?
cheers

so all sorted.
Mounted the fans on the front, and all seems to be good. Haven't mounted the bumper over the top but lokks like it should fit. AC radiator is now on the other side.
This is just to let ohter people know that they do fit on the front.
