Why not It's all your fault I got interested in this stuff anyway
Hyden is too far for such a short time. Condo on the other hand is just days drive for us

I have made some discoveries and learnt a lot. I was kinda hopeing that I wouldn't have to immerse myself in the entire Subaru DOJ range to get the shafts I need. There are times when, if you could just ask an expert, it would save a whole lot of trouble. So notch DOJs up beside tyres sizes, rim offsets, gearbox ratios, LSDs, differences between early STi versions....Outback bloke wrote:How did you get on with the cv joints today? Length/spline on the Liberty ones going to work with the circlips?
There could probably be a tech section devoted to the whole DOJ interchangeability issue and maybe there is but I cant find it
Some interesting findings that most of you no doubt already know.
FACT#1 : All the driveshafts I have seen have the same spline both ends.
FACT#2 : There are 4 driveshaft spline counts; 22, 23, 25 & 30.
FACT#3 : There are 2 output shaft/stub-axle spline counts; 23 & 25.
FACT#4 : The two 23 splines and the two 25 splines are identical (which is completely irrevelant and useless info).
FACT#5 : There is no acurate way of determining the size of a DOJ or shaft without dissasembly.
FACT#6 : Driveshafts designed for one DOJ and one CV cannot take two DOJs without doing something seriously bodgee to it.
FACT#7 : I have built myself a rear-end that will not be able to use Subaru parts.
Next step is to determine the ideal size I need the rear driveshaft to be. It's going to be about 470mm long and either 23 or 25 spline.
Where would I find a file listing all the lengths and splines of every driveshaft ever made?
Does anyone have a contact in the driveshaft world that would be able to answer that question?

Yeah thanks Wlbur but I think I've got buckleys.
I'll make some calls on Monday but if that proves fruitless then I'll just get some shafts made. In the great scheme of things, it's no big deal.
The worst part is, if I knew I was going to make custom shafts I would have increased the track even more. Front and rear. Not to worry, it can stay like ths for now.
I may as well use the big 95AC DOJs and get the 25 splines cut to suit. 30 spline is all the rage now but 25 is still bigger.

Try these guys, he has a book with measurements and sizes (Splines, total length and in some cases diameter). The bloke you need to speak to is George. What he doesn't know about CV's isn't worth knowing.
