Nice, I was about to say that previously a number of forum members didn't have much luck with gabriels on their lifted rides.
I must say though, I've ended up putting a set of front struts on my sister's liberty last year and they're going fine. It's a road going vehicle anyway.
Pretty good you managed to get the height adjustable units still!
Cheers
Bennie

Bantum: When I googled, that's one of the first things that comes up!
I don't have a 3d printer, was going to see if you want to run a few up for me, but then I remembered I kid I had do work experience for me jut bought one. I'll see if he's up for a challenge.
What carpet is everyone fitting to their suby's? Plush, loop?? other? Open to all ideas.

We got something like this in Sunnie the Brumby:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Moulded-Car ... SwkaZZdUmn
It was a bit cheaper than that. Use some nice mats to reduce wear.
Keep your factory floor liner under it or add some underlay to help with sound deadening, works a treat and adds a bit of luxury to your ute
Cheers

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Had a bit more time to mess around:
Well, the air con still works well, so I'm good there with no leaks: Winner.
I've got genuine front bush's coming. Really prefer rubber than plastic.
Got a new windscreen rubber here, and the carpet and underlay have also arrived.
Got a new engine stay/support bush set (the one to the spare tyre well) coming also.
Not sure when I'll tackle this rust issue, but now for the question:
It's an 89 red targa: Even subaru can't tell me the colour code: It's either
946 Rio red
or
726 Splendor red
Anyone know?

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Can you find the colour code sticker under the bonnet? It’s usually somewhere on the edge of the engine bay or on top of the upper radiator support panel.
I’ll have to go check mine and compare notes - it’s a red targa.
I recently saw a new XV with the red I want to respray my brumby in - but need to get it “good” in the body department first! And find time to strip it out and go through all the proper respray work to get it right (and awesome) the first time round.
Cheers

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
I did manage to find a badly faded paint code sticker in the end! IIRC it was Rio Red.
Anyways, decided I need 5 forward cogs... Got a box out of a 1991 L, code TW75F9K2BW. I grabbed the rear diff just in case I need that if the ratio's different between my 89 brumby box. I grabbed all the console, the prop shaft, the shifters, clutch cable/pedal and the clutch disc. I 'hope' the cv splines are the same as the brumby, it was a carby EA82, and AFAIK that means the CV's should be the same.
But I really need to tackle that windscreen rust first before winter hits the poor thing again.

Very nice mate. The stock drive shafts will slip straight onto that gearbox

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Hey SubySpanner, nice to see the Red Targa is still getting some love. did see you other thread about L series 5 speed, I have a extra box here but sorry no detailed info on them. The diff you took out should have a ratio tag on the back of it... it will be either 3.7 or 3.9 as far as I know. Std Brumby is 3.7 from my experience.

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Thanks guys.
The box is a bit oily, and it stinks, so I want to pull it down and give the once over. Anyone know of any pdf's on stripping the 5 speed?

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Front cases are the same as EJ gear, as are the torque specs for the rear cases.
You need to remove the 4wd engagement/selector gear at the back of the box to proceed forwards - it’s a bit of a mind puzzle with the decent balls and “pills” to get it all out and back in. EJ boxes are much easier to work on due to NOT having this mechanism!
All seals are the same across the range of manual boxes, with exception to the rear plate and the 4wd lever seals which are different to EJ stuff.
Cheers

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
I've got .pdf's for the 2 x models below if you think they maybe of help.
I am not Subaru mechanically minded, I just collect manuals as I find them if I think they maybe hard to get types.
Drop me a PM with your email address if you want either or both copies.
Subaru Brumby, Leone, L-series 1979 - 89 Workshop Manual
1983 Subaru EA81

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Different overall gearbox design unfortunately Subyroo. Might be useful to someone though.

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Thanks guys: Yes the EA 5speed manual is proving hard to find, I might hit the library see if they have the suby manuals.

Re: 89 Targa Brumby
Bennie, that appears to have it, but is it possible to download the pdf, rather than flick one page at a time?

I think it comes down to what manual they’ve uploaded. I got a Gen3 manual (pretty sure it was from that site) that was difficult to use, until I worked out that it was flooded with imbedded hyperlinks to the specific information being discussed in other sections. No need to flick pages or guess how far down the slide bar you needed to be
