little l wagoooonn

Post by Mitchhsj » Tue Aug 21, 2012 8:03 pm

hi all.
Just thought i would share my new found obsession with subies, around 7 months ago i was looking into a 4x4 after always having high powered street cars. didn't want a large thing or the fuel bill that comes with it so an l series was the go. i got my hands on an 87 blue wagon off ebay and went from there with a lift kit and 14inch sunnies with tiers a heap of custom stuff. sadly after many beach trips and a previous hard life that spelt the end for the wagon as my wheel bearing collapsed on the way to work [because the chassis was so rusted] the wheel locked up [27inch buckshot mudders] and the lower control arm coming through the passengers floor. Ended up getting a sweet silver 91 for a good price [ 2 owners, sitting in a shed for the last 3 years and only seen a dirt road hubcaps and all]. sadly after 3 weeks on the road the timing belt decided to go { whilst on the way to work} so off the road it came for 3 weeks and the fix up.

MOTOR- timing belt kit - water pump - thermostat - new full alloy radiator with no mac fan and put an extra thurmo fan on now both are running to ING through a switch for water crossings - duel commodore batteries for camping - weber carby - 2 1/4' sports system - upgraded dizzy.

BODY- 3inch body lift blocks and adding 30mm on to the strut lifts making it just over 4 - custom made rear bumper and tire carrier and soon come full custom front bar work.

INSIDE- new alpine head unit with blutooth, the lot - 6x9 in the rear doors and 6inch alpines in the front 2200wat amp bolted to the back seat with a 12inch sub in the back [doff doff :)]

im also making a 2inch snorkel out of stainless hugging the window pillar and i have a full length steal roof top basket off an my wagon I'm cutting in half for camping with 4 spoties on it :)..
Thanks for reading, its great to share with people that also have love for these little slow under powered monsters..

Awesome, another lifted L series!

Love those tyres, I'll be keen to know how many k's you get out of them before a new set is needed.

Keep up the pics and the good times :D

Cheers

yea I'm loving it! getting heaps of thumbs up and waves. there going ok i have not rotated them yet and they did around 3000 on my old blue wagon and 1000 on the new one. i drive it pretty hard and there just starting a little shoulder wear on the outside fronts from the camber as i have just added 30mm on to the strut tops but thinking of pulling them out and doing a little custom shifting to pull the strut tops toward the motor more.. if theres room or a little reshaping of the tunnel may be need to move the springs over.. don't know. bloddy wheel bearings decided to go today so thats a job for the weekend. and rust proofing..

Hey Mitchhsj. What I realy want is a set of 14" steel pugs to get the tyres inside the guards. Was also thinking of redrilling hubs and fitting 14" 6 stud wheels(off ford courier ute or similar) but pugs would be the go. Then the sunnies would go so 13's would only be tempuary till I found/could afford new wheels and tyres.

I find the smaller wheel track of the L series to be great with this in general. I've got the correct offset rims with 27 inch tyres.

Down here you'd get picked up pretty quick since the tyres are outside the guards :( Flares of some description are the way to go.

Cheers

yes, i spose its not as bad here with getting picked on, there are stupid potrols with 37 inch wheels and no guards and front bumper every where you look, so i don't have to much of a problem..
