MY Red Brum Blog Thread

Post by revmax » Sat Jan 07, 2012 6:43 pm

Well it started out as a fun Brum but has turned into a major project, which I don't mind at all as I love to create and especialy love the "warm fuzzy' at the end.
Bought a 90 Brum woth lots of dints minimul rust and a totaly RS tail gate of a work mate. Most of he pictures of the progress have already been posted on this forum but I will try to link pictures n stuff back to this thread to save double posting as that just uses bandwith.
I forgot to take pictures the day I got it but have some not long after I washed, degreased it and marked up the rust spots in yellow.

Rims as I got them, pretty ugly.

One rim blasted back to bare metal with Garnett.

One rim primed with "Etch primer"

One rim finished, Sika flex into rim join then 2 pack clear over the top.

Insanity !!
bar was rubed back with an orbital sander to remove stone dints/bures first 120 grade then 240 grade.
Then 4incc electric angle grinder with a 4inch stitched cotten wheel with cutting compound. then 4inch pneumatic angle grinder with 6inch cotton wheel and buffing compound. Then rubbed back by had with purple polish.
It is not as shiney as I wanted but I just got fed up with doing it over and over. today i wiped the wax of and just clear coated it. I wish I had of had another go at polishing it befor clear coating it.
Oh the mounts and posts were abrasive blasted and painted.
the inside of the channell was cleaned with acid aluminum cleaner.
I reckon I have spent over 12hrs on the dam thing and it is still not right but will have to do.

Will be nice to have power windows. The coupe had them so use the regs from that (much easier) but if not, you can modify the Touring Wagon ones.. I think Dave (Subarino) did it on Hatchie.

BTW.. don't forget to glad wrap the aerial or polish the number plate

Machined the rear discs yesterday. They just cleaned up 0.05--.02 over minimum thickness.
Spent some time today cleaning the calapers inside and out and putthem back together.
Last week I blasted the backing plate and hub but forgot the discs. So I might just have to do that now.

Looks awesome mate, even better though is the fact youve done all the work yourself.

Nothing beats a 2pac finish, does my head in how people are taking things back to bare metal then painting with acrylics.

Well done again mate.

Rear Disc brakes fitted. Brake lines flushed and bled.
Tested and pads bedded in.
Put some new outer wheel bearing seals in while I had it apart.
Far out it has been raining real heavy here today.

Forgot to mention I bought some spanners especialy for brake lines from Gasweld on the way home yesterday.Am SOOOOO glad I did cause they fit the fittings perfect. No crushed nuts for me this time. They were only about $15ea.
Nothing like having the right tool for the job.
They are so nice I bought four spanners from 10 to 17mm. Only needed the 10mm and 14mm for the rear disc set up but I have the othes now "Just in case"
