Finally found an avatar photo to post... you sort of get the idea.

The moral of the story is bullets are dangerous kids.

Even if your bullets are rolling on the floor, you should never take your eyes off the road.

No matter how yummy the licorice is or how nice the chocolate coating tastes, bullets aren't worth crashing the car.

Personally I can't stand the taste of them, guess I'm safe, but I picked up the wreck today and there's bullets everywhere inside it....

That is one sweet 77 Wagon, always remembered my Neighbours one and doing a clutch for him, Only Engine I have ever lifted out unaided by myself to do a clutch those early engines are so light.

Definately get rid of the black and bring back the 70's Chrome look such a desireable and relatively rare car these days yet still so practical.

can anyone help me ive been working on cars for 45 year but not up to date with CPU's on cars I have a 2009 Subaru Impreza EJ20 none turbo brock the timing belt tensioner on it repaired that with new timing belt kit. I also bent 2 inlet valves so did a rebuild on both heads. my question is I have spark and fuel and timing makes line up. would sticky valve buckets stop the car from starting i also noticed that the right side cams are out 1 tooth could this also be the problem.

Gā€™day Gary and welcome to the forum!

With your no start issue, one tooth out on the timing belt wonā€™t do much for a no start, but it might lag on peak performance. It is best to fix the issue.

Have you got the cam and crank sensors connected? Without either of these the engine will never start. Also check your ground wires on the engine, you might have missed one on the inlet manifold bolt.

My other thought is your valve lash is too tight, not allowing the valves to close properly and create a full seal.

Lastly, ensure you havenā€™t lined up the cam belt using the arrow on the cam wheel. That arrow is to indicate which cylinder is at TDC. What you need to line up is a small tab/line on the outer edge of the cam wheel. The arrow (from memory) should be pointing at about 1:30 on the LHS cam when this tab is correctly aligned.

I hope that helps.

Cheers

Bennie

thanks bennie update checked the injectors one is not firing also did compression test number 1-110psi , 2-95psi , 3-95psi and number -4 is 65psi number 4 and 3 had trouble with the valve caps they were tight this is why I think its them not fully returning and the valve is staying open on the inlets. I did a leak test before installing the heads and there were no leaks the head Gaskets are mad from steel and don't have sealant on them do I need to put sealant on the gaskets or are they right the way they are. if I remove them can I reuse them as the motor has'nt been run yet.

No sealant on the HGs

Just make sure EVERYTHING is uber clean as you install HGs.

You shouldnā€™t need to pull the heads to sort out valves unless thereā€™s a bigger issue than just rocker/valve lash clearances.

Gā€™day. I must admit Iā€™m new to Subaru cars, but have enjoyed getting to know the Brumby cars Iā€™ve recently purchased. I have a few ā€œolderā€ cars I share with my brother: a 1989 NA MX5, a 1978 Fairmont GXL, and these two Brumbys. I was really lucky to buy the first, a first generation Brumby from 1981. No rust and straight, but an ex farm ute with only 130,000 kilometres on the clock. I have 4 YouTube videos on that one if youā€™d like to check it out. Itā€™s a great little car. Iā€™ve been told itā€™s very rare being the original ā€œcurvyā€ shape. Any others out there on this Forum? The second Brumby is a 91 model with 152K. Itā€™s a good car but Iā€™ve just discovered bubbles in the radiator... I think I have problems with that one. Anyhow, glad this site exists. I might have to use the expertise of others sooner than I thought.

Ah, now the 8191 makes sense in your username 8191Brumby!

Welcome. Start a build/my car thread or two once you work out how to post images. Itā€™s not as straight forward as bookface, but then searching for anything useful on bookface isnā€™t straight forward either...

The 81 ā€œbrumbyā€ would certainly be a rarity let alone if itā€™s in good condition. These usually rusted out and ended up on a farm then the scrap heap. Keep it tidy and jump on any rust as soon as you see it.

The 91 sounds good. The head gasket job isnā€™t overly difficult if you know your way around a tool kit and a workshop manual ;) Itā€™s worth getting onto sooner rather than later, less potential for a dangerous overheat event.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome. Iā€™m hopeless at computer stuff and canā€™t easily navigate around these sites, so sorry if I should be posting elsewhere. I donā€™t think I can do the HG myself and not 100% sure itā€™s even the HG thatā€™s the trouble. I took a video of whatā€™s happening and put it on YouTube. https://youtu.be/3gWpN2KfQwc
Do you or others have a recommendation of someone in Sydney who does head gasket repairs, even a retired Subaru mechanic or well versed Subi enthusiast? Thanks if you can make a recommendation. Iā€™ll try to find the right place on this site to ask this sort of thing. Cheers.

I should have mentioned Iā€™m keen to learn from a master mechanic how to change the HG. Only way iā€™ll learn ...

Gā€™day Stephen,

Iā€™m not a fan of eBay radiators. Buy from a shop where it comes with a warranty or some sort of after sale service.

If your old radiator can be repaired, this could be a good way to go.

Well done on scoring a targa top! The Covid tax has driven the prices right up atm and fomo has them selling almost on the day they go up for sale!

Start a build thread when youā€™ve got some pics and something to share ;)

Cheers

Bennie

Hello,

I am a new member (obviously).

I don't actually own a car at this stage, but have decided to buy a XV later this year.

I guess I've signed up to the forum to find out as much as I can about XVs in general and specifically what gear other users have purchased.

Stay safe

Philip

Hello everybody,

Iā€™m Glen, from Brisbane, and have inherited a 2008 B9 Tribeca along the way.
I was just wondering about improving fuel economy by any chance? I have seen these ā€œperformance chipsā€ on eBay and was hoping that some people in here have had some experience with something along those lines and if they could shed some light on potential fuel economy gains!

Thanks in advance!
