Impreza Auto Stop Start System

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.
I have just bought an Impreza 2.0S and the auto stop start system is doing my head in.
It needs to be manually disabled every time you start the car - and of course you always forget until the engine stops at the first set of traffic lights.
Does anyone know whether it's possible to disable the system permanently?

What about it is doing your head in? Can you give us a run through on how it operates?

It is designed as a fuel saving system that switches the engine off when you come to a stop. The engine automatically restarts when you lift off the brake pedal. If the a/c is operating the fan will continue, but obviously the compressor won't. The wear and tear on the starter system and electrical system all seems a bit pointless to me when the fuel saving would be 3/8 of s.f.a. There is an override switch to disable the system, but as mentioned in my first post, it needs to be disabled every time you start the car.
No doubt you would become accustomed to the feeling of "helplessness" that you experience when the engine stops, but I for one would prefer to disable it completely.

you'd think it would be disabled until it was at op temp surely ?

I'm sticking to MY's and L's

There are many different overrides that prevent the system from operating, and I think op temp is one of them - that's another gripe - no engine temp guage.
I was hoping someone would tell me where to find a convenient fuse to remove to override the system completely (or some other easy fix).

A special starter and Inrush Current Reduction (ICR) relay are among the components supporting Auto Start Stop. The ICR relay stabilizes power supply during idle reduction, so instruments and displays do not flicker.

The starter in Lineatronic™ CVT Impreza and XV features tandem solenoids. Independent solenoids control the motor and the pinion gear connecting engine and motor rotation, ensuring rapid engine restart in as little as 0.2 seconds. An electric pump supplies oil to the forward clutch’s hydraulic circuit while the engine is stopped. This minimizes delay between engine restart and vehicle motion, producing smoother driving.

During Auto Start Stop operation, the air conditioner, navigation and audio systems are all fed by the auxiliary power supply.

Vehicles with Auto Start Stop are fitted with a long-life battery.

On XV manual variants, Hill Start Assist ensures Auto Start Stop operates safely on hills.

To avoid wasting electrical energy, the car’s electric power steering is turned off whenever the engine is automatically stopped.

you push a single button on the dash after you start the car to disable it as the OP has said. if you don't and you stop at a stop sign or traffic lights for around 30 seconds the engine switches off to "save" energy?

Rather nifty trick but a pain in the arse, as when you want to go the engine is starting not actually driving. (XV test drive)

I'm still looking for information on disabling the feature, I know from this article (where I got the description) it does disable itself. Which is a know issue to Subaru.

I don't think it would be as easy as pulling a fuse but then...

wow, imagine it in traffic - foot off brake to move up a few meters in the queue at small intervals repeatedly!
No Temp Gauge!? Subaru saving money to make the BRZ such a good price!

If it were me, I'd find the stop/start module and 'isolate' the brake pedal input...
