Ok ive stripped my interior back to metal in the Brumby. I was wondering what would be best for sound deadening. All i have is what it came out with from factory (hard stuff i dont wanna rip up) it had carpet underlay.
Ive heard about body deadner, sound panels, and the carpet underlay.
Whats best?

I know some people (look at niterida's thread) rip up this hard body protectant. It looks kinda like asbestos. I dont wanna get rid of it unless i have to cos it will be hard work, probably for no gain. I was wondering what people recomend.

Yeah don't rip up the old stuff if you can avoid it. I only took mine off because less weight = more fast. I was going to go the race car look with no floor covering at all.

Oh and the floor was dented and I was going to fix it.

I'd just run some of that in the doors and maybe a bit on the floor. And definitely some good underlay on the floor.

Not familiar with Brumbies, what is this "hard stuff" you speak of? is it black colored? In the boot of my car under the floor mat was this black hard stuff, like plastic. I had no choice but to chip it all off; because the rear window leaks water had completely soaked the foam under the floor mat and water had gotten trapped between this hard plastic stuff and the metal floor pan causing it to rust. Lucky I found it in time and it wasn't rusted through, only bad surface rust. Need to replace that black stuff with something and put a new floor mat in now

Here ya go. Its about 5mm thick, its the dark dirty stuff, the white stuff is the metal

That stuff is made of tar, makes a huge difference to noise but it's pretty heavy, car sounds like a can of marbles without it on when you are on the dirt.

The stuff I took out the back of my car was pretty heavy, ended up with 1 and half buckets of it in small pieces. Will replace it with something like in niterida's link.

Cam that stuff in the pics looks pretty much like what I had but yours looks thinner, maybe it's just the picture though.

When I did up my Brumby I stripped all the interior out and got some heat shield from Clark Rubber.

It's foam on one side and foil on the other. It's about 10mm thick and is used under the bonnet of cars. Just peel off the contact paper and it sticks on. I did this under the hood and on the floor of the ute and the back of the cabin, then replaced with carpet and the rear lining behind the seats so you don't see it. Also where the spare tyre sits it covered the fire wall.

I used this stuff once before on a dual cab ute in the rear section behind the seats with great results. Stopped the drumming sound coming from the back.

Certainly stopped noise and is very light.

Sounds like a handy product.

I take it i shouldn't use the paint. Dont really wanna use dynamat if i can help it ($$$) But there is a cheap alternative on ebay. Couldn't find the stickyback foam shield, but found foam shield at clark rubber. What about standard foam? does it have any properties for sound deadning?

not really its just muffles it which makes it more annoying why dont you just drop some holes in the muffler then you have no need for sound deadener.... you,ll have a sound droning exhaust

What a perfect idea!!! Its still legal, and i will have an awsome sound. Even better i can save my money on that new sound system i was going to buy, no need for that either!

holes in the muffler are illegal like defect to regency illegal but if your going a big sound system why bother with sound deadner... i have a cheap chinese dvd player fusion sub and just short of 1000W of standard becker audio and i cant hear sh_t over that even with my cheapo $10 speaker from cash converters it went loud enough to not be a problem not to mention sometimes hearing your engine isnt a bad thing

HAHAHA yeah, well they sell small pads that you put behind your speakers to improve quality, so it doesn't resonate in the door and come back to you.
Yeah i dont want to much, im about to buy the paint on stuff and use some felt (carpet underlay). And it sould be good enough for me. i dont want perfect just a little better.
