Subwoofer in L series

Has anyone managed to build or fit a sub into the body of a car of an L series or have you all just put them in a box. I didnt want to compromise my boot space so was thinking of putting one in the back of the boot or the sides of the rear boot. Its a shallow mounting sub so i was thinking it could be done. Has anyone done it?

I mounted a pioneer 10 inch (first generation of the shallow version) sub on the side, using fiberglass to occupy the storage pocket. Worked pretty good, but suggest you use a decent grill to protect it.

Similar to this, but not as nice!

Have seen the tool well used as well, with limited success.

I found an active tube works im gunna alter the under floor compartment to fit the tube and maybe a dual battery setup once i lift

I've seen those side rear storage compartments used for this in the liberty very neatly. I'm sure you could do the same in the L series - there's quite a bit of room behind that panel, pull it off and have a look!

i wouldnt. buy a slim line sub in a small box and make it removable.

there are too many panels to rattle around when you mount directly into a compartment like that. It'll sound like shit.

check out bazooka tubes also.

i was running a lil one in my L wagon it was awesome, until i got abit more serious and went bigger.

when i get home tonight ill post up some pics of my current system that ive mad completely removable for when i sleep in the car of have to fit some big stuff in the car.

Removable is the best way. Especially if you need lots of room sometimes. In-built subs are really for show cars.

Whatever you do, don't mount it in your tailgate.
The sound of a number plate vibrating off it's mounting screws sets my teeth on edge.
If you put it in a removable box, make sure the box can be secured. Subs are heavy, and in a crash, can become a lethal projectile.

Yea, I have a large 12 inch in a box so it's removable when needed. With a 2000 w amp on the back of one of the fold down back seats it runs the sub and my rear door speakers. Works great

compromising box size will compromise sound your best option would probably be to have it in a box they can be removed in seconds but if you really want to go with the slim option fibreglass is the key

I just put a sound system in my L series, the 12" sub is in a box from supercheap sitting on the back seat at the moment but when I get a chance (today, maybe) I might put it in the boot space, flush against the seat and with enough loose wiring to move it off to the side if I were to sleep in there or need to fill up the back.

I had two ideas, one was to have it vertical in between the backseat and the center console, but you'd have to make your own custom box. The other idea is like the others were saying, mount it in one of the side compartments in the back but with it being off to one side, unless you had 2 subs, it may sound questionable.
