MY stereo spacer bracket

Post by Cliff R » Sat Dec 04, 2010 3:01 pm

Anyone know a supplier name and correct part number for the plastic spacer that goes between (for example) a CD player and the existing dash of an MY/Brumby stereo. The original stereo housing is too shallow as the original radio/cassette player was not as deep as a modern CD player. When fitting a CD player it hits on the heater/venting system under the dash and sticks out past the dash facia. The spacer takes up the extra space. I could make one but I know these spacers are available on the market. I just dont know the details.

Coming back from Newcastle today and called into Rutherford REPCO to see if they had a better range of car stereos compared to what we have here locally in the car spares shops.
I specifically wanted a stereo that doesn't have a CD, has radio, good for 4 speakers, Bluetooth and USB inputs.
I wanted a unit with these features as, no CD means the unit will be more shallow than a machine with a CD so I wouldn't need the spacer to jack the stereo out from the dash.
Unfortunately, I missed out on the last REPCO catalogue sale BUT, while the last sale was still on 2 x JVC model KD-X50BT units were ordered and eventually arrived. They were sitting out the back and not on the shelf.
I had a look at these units and their normal price was over $300.
On sale they were down to $149.
Even though these stereos are the not of a shallow depth type even with no CD I bit the bullet and said I would take one deciding to buy the facia kit to jack the stereo out enough to fit.
While one stores sales bloke was finishing the deal the other stores bloke said, hang on, $149 isn't the right price, it was actually $89 each.
Without blinking I said "Ill take both of them".
One for the MY wagon and one for the Suzuki Vitara (they both have a cassette player).
I then tried to find the Aerpro Subaru Multi Model Facia Kit at REPCO and again at Supercheap in Singleton but it didn't come up in the sales book. When I got home it wasn't coming up on the Aerpro web site either.
I ended up calling the guys at our local Auto 1 store (I am well known here) and they made a call to Aerpro and yes, the FP9055 kit is still available.
Why it doesn't come up on anyone's listing is unknown but if you want one maybe they are being phased out.
I ordered one and hopefully it will be here by the end of the week or early next week.
Then the fitting will start.

Don't forget to post pics! ;)

Everyone seems to have trouble of some sort when fitting new head units to MY's and L's...I had the same problem with my wagon. Oddly enough the Brumby is sufficiently different that I could fit a CD player straight in with no spacer, nearly flush with the console.
Will it ever end!?

Silverbullet
I will send pics when fitted including details of any issues.
I have a slight issue at the moment as I had Cataract surgery on one of my eyes on Monday so cant get into anything for at least a few days and/or when the spacer kit arrives.
It is interesting in your comment on yours fitted flush without a spacer.
Me thinks maybe I should have checked this before ordering the spacer kit. Might do this anyway some time today to see how the new unit goes for depth.

There are 3 different types of consoles for the MY series. Two of them require the spacer and the third doesn't.

There are also stereos out on the market that aren't as deep as others, so unless you use CDs (why would you bother when MP3s don't skip) then I'd look at getting the shallow one but seeing as you have brought one already, then just play when you get better.

BTW.. Hope you get better soon.. worst thing having eye treatment

Thanks RSR 555.
Mine is the touring wagon and from memory there isn't much room down the back of the console.
Maybe later today I might take out the old (after market) cassette player and take some measurements on depth etc.
I don't know whey the JVC unit is so deep when it doesn't even have a CD.

No, all head units have internal amps. 4x16wrms ish, they're pretty small and won't really effect the total size of the unit

My first alpine deck fitted ok depth wise until I went to external amps and had 6xRCA trying to fit as well

I really should check my 101 message bank.
Auto 1 called and left a message the spacer kit was in.
Oh well, too late for today so I will pick it up tomorrow.
