Chris @ #22,

Any idea if any of these can be had in Aus (or sourced from Japan) and if so, the price?

Barry

Does anyone know if the Subaru part is backwards compatible for an '04 Gen 4 Outback? Or do they make an 'aux' that is?

hey guys, I have a MY10 XT Forry and was wondering if the "Media Hub" component fits my vehicle ? I have the full Sat Nav system (believe it is a Kenwood unit built for Subaru). I have the aux inputs int he centre console but a USB or ipod/iphone input would be much more useful :)

Thanks

Tom

Here are a few pictures you might find helpful regarding the aux jack:
GX-204KH radio:

Rear:

close-up:

Connectors on rear (from left to right, as seen in picture):

1) Fly-lead with Subaru proprietary antenna socket (w/ dual antenna leads)
2) 14-pin socket for power/speaker harness. Pin-out table
3) 20-pin socket for external CD changer, iPod interface (and in North America, also Sirius/XM satellite radio tuner modules)
4) 8-pin socket for aux input, steering wheel controls, night illumination dimness cancellation. Pin-out (see section '2007-up Legacy/Liberty/Outback' in post 10 of that thread)

Aux pod exploded view:

back of PC board:

Pin-out of 6-pin plug on OEM aux harness (plugs into bottom of aux pod)
(in the above picture, pin 1 is the leftmost pad in the row just above the two screws)

1 Right audio (3.5mm plug "ring")
2 Audio Ground (3.5mm plug "sleeve")
3 Left audio (3.5mm plug "tip")
4 Audio Ground (tied to pin 2)
5 Enable switch -- common
6 Enable switch -- normally-open contact

The enable switch is a separate piece "docked" to the tip end of the 3.5mm jack. The tip of the plug pushes the switch. The switch tells the radio to enable the aux button (for details, see link to 8-pin socket pin-out, above).

When no 3.5mm plug is present, the jack itself also shorts the left and right audio signal leads to audio ground (to prevent unwanted noise from getting into the radio). Keep this in mind if you're thinking of wiring a second audio source to the aux input.
(and thanks, thatsgoodsquishy, for posting the scans of the installation instructions!)

ADDED: Great walk-through with pictures: DIY: AUX-IN after mount + Center console removal -Legacy 2008
(In my post #17 there, I attached the PDF for Subaru's installation instructions for the OEM H6210AG000 aux kit).

MY06 or MY07

Post by SUBYDAZZ » Thu Nov 10, 2011 7:09 am

OzWolf wrote:...I have a MY06 2.5i Outback (base model, so no sat nav, etc.). It has a 6-disc stacker factory unit. On the front source selector, there is an AUX option (which leads me to believe it is capable of achieving what I want)....
Are you sure it's a MY06 or is it a late 2006 model MY07? Because I'm almost certain MY06 never had the head unit of which you speak. If it's that unit you will be able to fit the AUX input kit.

late 2006 or 2007. early 2006 had a silver panel and a different radio. I get request for them a fair bit. I keep a fly lead instock for these units for this very reason

What did you end up doing?

Hi, im wondering what you decided on doing did you get the parrot or a aftermarket head unit? Am looking for a GX-204KH head unit as mine decided to give up the ghost and am looking to buy one again and installed it back into my car.

parrot MKI9100 would be a better idea. the early 'silver' units do not have any sort of audio input on them . the later one does but they are not interchangeable.
