Rapid electronics power windows

I first saw this retro-fit power windows kit on Mighty car mods on Youtube (fantastic channel btw) and was thoroughly impressed. So I bought a 4 door kit for my wagon so I could convert it to power windows without having to find power windows out of a touring wagon, playing around with 30 year old motors and mechanisms, stripping the correct wiring out etc etc.

Basically the kit uses a motor and worm drive connected to some cables, with a gear that slips over the spline on the original manual winder mechanism to give you power windows. The kit comes with all the gears you might need to convert pretty much any car, all the bracketry required to mount the motors and drive gear, and a hefty bag of wiring complete with 3 switches and a master switch set. All seems pretty good quality. Also the kit comes with covering plugs to hide the old winder stub that will stick out of the door cards, and templates for cutting the holes for the switches.

I just now got around to fitting a couple of motors in my wagon and it works a treat! Everything is very slim and low profile so mounting in the door is easy and is no where near colliding with the window as it goes up and down, the door cards fit flush afterwards and that goes for the rear passenger doors as well. The mounting brackets are sturdy and strong, no flex in them and it was quick to fit. Down side is the instructions are quite vague (broken english translation) with no instructions for the wiring. Also you need to make sure all your window channels and sliders are completely clean and lubed up otherwise you'll be getting very slow windows. One other thing, the motors do come in left and right configuration so 4 door kit comes with 2 left, 2 right. They are not market L or R either so you need to watch out.

Very nice.
I have to hope my originals (electric windows) don't pack it in or I may have to upgrade to the system you have fitted.

Very nice SB... It makes it tempting to swap out my brumby manual winders for a 2 door kit.

Yeah, shows what you can do with a 3.6L turbocharged flat 6 in an old wagon  Off topic off topic

Going on how easy these were to install and the price of the kits has come down by about half since I bought this 4 door kit, I think I'll be doing this on my Brumby as well :) Maybe I'll throw in their remote central locking kit as well...

Central locking/keyless entry is definately worth the extra 15mins per door.

that's blood good. simple idea, universal, and apparently the quality is there. My L Series touring wagon windows all still work perfectly at the moment and I have two complete sets of spares too so I'm kindof disappointed I won't get to try one of these new kits out lol.

Good to know SB! Looks like I'll hit this up soon for Redback.

I love the power windows in Sunnie the Brumby - and the power steering too...

All things to do!

Cheers
