is there any off-the-shelf bolt in rear shocks for an MY that are like 3 inch's bigger?

have read of the FJ? Landcruiser ones but the eyes are different or something.

want to do away with the liftbracket and get some longer travel ones.

if not what ones can be adapted fairly easily off another 4wd or something to give me longer travel and allow me not to use my 3 inch shockie lift block?

any help appreciated.

Hi Matatak,
i am running front FJ landcruiser shocks in the rear of my '84 'MY' wagon which has a 2 inch lift kit, they fit no problem. I ended up removing the shockie lift block as it use to compress the shock too far and go bang, if the car hit a bump with a bit of a load in the back (due to extra length of the FJ shocks).
What i did to begin with was go to a wrecker and pick up a pair of clapped out old shocks, (which i think they gave me), just to make sure they would fit.
Hope this helps, John.

The trouble with recommending shocks is that different companies have different specs. And, generally speaking, 4WD shocks seem to be growing in length as users ask for more wheel travel.
I currently have EFS FJ40 rears on a 6" lifted MY that suit it well. Also have genuine HZJ79 rears on a 3" lift that also suit. Just what I had at the time. Have used FJ40 fronts with 2" lift before but the Rancho RS9000 I recently tried were way too short.

The beauty of FJ40 shocks is their small (9/16" I think) bolt size. Not the eye, but the mounting bolt that goes through it. If you press the brackets out of your old genuine shocks they will be a nice snug fit in the 40 series bushes. 75 series and Patrols use a larger (5/8"?) hole size.

I suggest you take your lift-bracket equipped rear shock down to your local 4WD suspension shop and check it against a few common sizes. Check both compressed and extended length.

Monroe Shocks

i wouldnt use without a 3 Inch lift though.
would probably work well with a 4inch to.

do NOT use the top shockie lift blocks with these
