Off the shelf damper suggestions for 5 stud RX-T .

Post by discopotato03 » Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:41 am

Hi all , because of a change in direction I want to fit production (off the shelf) dampers to my RX Turbo .

Basically I need to have it at roughly std height with wagon rear springs .
Actually I just remembered that some of those aftermarket rear dampers had removable spring seats so maybe we could make something to sit a little lower .

The front will use possibly Impreza struts in Liberty uprights because Impreza struts are shorter from memory so better chance of std front ride height .
Now Impreza springs and top seats are smaller than Liberty so possibly fit in L towers with a bit of space .
Is there a combination of KYB or whatever that will achieve this and be readily available ? Its the height issue that concerns me because I think L series bits cater to a market where everyone wants to go higher in wagons .

Cheers A .

Lib springs will fit in the L series tower if your car is unlifted, otherwise you will need Impreza.

I've got Impreza kybs with raised king springs in mine and it actually didn't look raised at all, and the spring rate was about right too.

Other way around? U mean Lib springs will fit if your car IS lifted right? Unlifted, yeah you need Impreza ones.

I had to massage my L series strut towers slightly with a large hammer to get standard Liberty springs to fit - this is with 6" strut tops fitted.

I was speaking to Gee earlier in the day and there are a few options .

I was also speaking to my suspension mentor and he's hopefully going to give Ellie a "wobble test" on Monday morning . He said that being in the loop means that he can make inquiries as to whats needed and whats close in other cars OEM bits .

Gee was telling me that L Series rear springs are a common size diameter wise with some aftermarket motorsport types so once a suitable rate and fitted length is known you just buy off the aftermarket shelf . I'll probably ask GC if there is a Koni damper available because at least valving can be changed with those , he would also know what valving would be needed to suit the eventual spring rate .

More on Monday , A .
