What could be wrong, i'm fairly certain I have the right strut on the right side, left on left.
Not sure what else can be wrong but the left strut should have an L on it and right should have a R on it.

I've just picked up some springs off my supplier for WayneO and I ask them about the smallest spring size for the fronts on any of the early EJ series cars. They told me they all run the same size bottom part (146mm Dia.), so he suggested fitting a different model/manufactures spring or use something like this...

Or these look good too...

I'm a dill

I re-measured the lower perch of the blue KYB WRX strut and although the same diameter as the Gen 1 Liberty strut, it appears to have a different offset so I installed it and through the half light as the sun went down, it looks like I have resolved my issues.

Only issue is that the clip for the brake line doesnt reach the clip part in the brake line.

I'll get some photos of these struts when the sun is out

RSR,.. I had been looking at various coilover kits and retrofit kits like you linked, but I want to have everything working and the car registered before I go buying new bits

Here is the liberty strut on the drivers side, see how the lower perch interferes with the wheel arch/strut tower edge

Here is the blue KYB from a WRX that has the same spring diameter, but it offset different and thus does not interfere

How the front sits with the WRX strut in the passenger side

I'll get some new CV boots and an L series CV shaft and convert the drivers side to Liberty cups on L shaft while I have that strut out. Liberty complete shafts in there at the moment
