Rear suspension in 89 Vortex.

Hi, please excuse my noobness but I've got a question about my Vortex's rear ride height. It sits really high and all the pics I've seen they have sat pretty level. Mine is so high you could almost use it as a ramp! What do I have to change in the rear suspension to lower it to normal? Im not sure if it had the airbag suspension before ( books and manual that came with the car suggest it did) but its riding on Monroe gas now. Any help welcome.

If it's a 4wd unit you've probably got 2wd rear shocks in it.

Steptoe will jump in about the different springs, their paint dabs and what they all mean.

But I'm sure you've got the wrong shock/strut in the rear...

Cheers

Any reason I can't use Lowered struts for a FWD in the back?

Dunno if there is enough info in that thread. Search, there is more. My Vort was bagged, then springed, chopped, respringed with effing wagom rear struts from late 84 mid 85 and had three adjustment levels on them and on the lowest setting was way too high in the air.
You need to wait until NNcoolG gets his RX rear coil springs, then you get the next set from the spares market...there is an order here :) ....

OK I can add stuff here ....Pedders had special notation on their system from Frankston and Bulleen branches that i followed and did not work. Advice was specific for AWD Vort 4 and to use sports ryder coil 2213. I returned them and used their 8202 comfort gas shock with my L Sries RX coil spring factories to achieve spot on Subarus minimum measure for the AWD

Pedders 8201 shock is 154mm bottom bolt centre to bottom of spring perch. XXXX
Pedders 8202 shock is 130mm yadah, yadah, yadah THIS IS WHAT I HAVE with factory RX rear coil
Pedders 8203 is 142mm

I tried my lowered FWD coils and struts in the back of my AWD Vort and it made godawful crunching noise just on jack let down- too low but looked wicked

Thanks mate, I'm so glad I joined this group. I just measured the distance from the ground to the bottom of my car at the front wheel, on the door side of the front wheel and it's roughly 210 mm and the back is 240mm. Maybe it's not out as much as I thought. Could be the way the back end sweeps up from underneath towards the bumper that makes it look so high in the arse. Thanks for all your help mate.

Don't be offended Jules if the new member declines your suggestion :p :p

Front suspension is measured from ground (naturally :D ) up to the centre of the bolt of the lower control arm inner

rear suspension is measured from ground up to the bottom side of the tubular crossmember at the outer end each side, forward of the wheels.
You get used to the height when you know it correct, just not as low slung as the FWDs scraping their tits on things :)

OK. Curious as to your coil springs. Black factory with coloured paint daubs of pinks, green orange combos, two daubs a spring and maybe 12.0mm wire dia,

or the RX originals one yellow paint daub ~ 11.0mm wire dia
or FWD sedan rear coils 10.0mm wire dia
