Hi all whilst replacing my rear struts, and what a day I had removing the two upper mounting bolts on each side. Original shocks were still in the car. Anyway, I noticed that my right rear bump stop is no longer there. There is a nice hole on the body mount. Does anyone know how to fix or where I can buy a replacement bump stop. I am thinking I will need to make a metal bracket attach the new bump stop and screw it into the chassis. Any help is appreciated. Don't want to drive around to long with it. Thanks in advance.

you replaced rear struts - did they have an internal bump stop on the shaft/piston itself ? If not think wagons had 'em, sedans did coz they didn't get the body mounted bunmp stop so might do as an interim precaution. Pedders sell them about $30 a pair, or each, forget....

Thanks, the wagon has a bump stop on the body. Has one on the left side, just the right side looks like it has broken off. There is a metal bump plate on the trailing arm which hits the rubber bump stop. Do pedders sell the body bump stop or is that for the struts.?

That would be great. I think I will need to make some sort of metal bracket and screw it in though, as the body metal angle it sits in has a big hole in the bottom, looks like it was torn off somehow. I am in Adelaide. Let me know and we can work out some logistics. Thanks in advance.

It is the strut/shock bumps stop that Pedders sell. I think even though tis a wagon, still needs bump stops on the strut itself. The original would have been all the yellow crumbly stuff that fell out on you on dissembly

Replaced complete struts that i bought on gumtree. Much better condition than mine. Got the front with rotors and calipers plus rear complete struts for $50. They are in good nick and have gained about 1.5 inches. Mine were sagging big time. So just need the body bump stop and will have to do some bush mechanics on it. I cant beleive how hard it was to remove top mounting bolts. Ended up long extenstion and 1 meter breaker bar with full body weight on them for the entire thread.

Does the hole look like it's cracked or smooth edged?

I ask as I'm 99% sure these are held in by a nut and bolt setup - if the nut's been loose the whole unit could have dropped off one day.

Hey I will have a better look inside the hole today to see if I can see the nut, but looks like the whole bottom of the plate where it attaches is gone. I think it may have been gone for a awhile and the metal bump plate on the trailing arm has been hitting it. The hole is not perfectly round and looks like some metal has been ripped off. I will take a pic tonight and upload.

Your rear end must be super low to rip a bump stop out - or someone's done something really really wrong!

I hope it's an easy fix! Lifting it comes to mind

Hi guys here is the picture of the damage. Any ideas would be great.

Not sure if I uploaded correctly but it is in my albums. The picture was taken from the bottom looking up. Had a feel around in there and there is no nut etc. Only thing I can think of is screwing another heavy duty plate and attaching a bump stop to it, or do I need to go see a chassis specialist. Thought this may be a common problem.

That looks like metal fatigue + rust around the edges, probably from the arm hitting bump stop repeatedly ( bad shock ? ) & has ripped out the whole attachment including the metal backing off ...

You'll need to weld a new backing plate ( including nut ) back in to fix that ...

That rust looks like it's salt related. I know that mud and find sand/dirt gets in behind there but that really does look like sea water has been added to the mix at some point...

That's a weld job. And if you're good with a welder I wouldn't worry about going to an engineer - but for piece of mind for you it could be worth your while.

Thanks guys, will get a mate to weld something up for me, will go to pedders and get a universal type bump stop, and try to match the height of the existing one. Yep salt water might well be in the mix, as have done a few fishing trips down to the murray mouth. Called a few wreckers they wanted $35 for an old bump stop but said most strip the bolt off when trying to remove them. So I will got with a universal type one. I will post some pics once it is done. Might be awhile as mate is not great at time management if you know what I mean. Thanks again. On another note did my rear drums few weeks ago, don't think they had ever been done either, will put some before and after pics in my album, pretty proud of that work.
