MY wagon, lift it higher !!

Post by Cliff R » Sun May 26, 2013 12:57 pm

My 82 MY Touring wagon already has a 2" lift kit but I have now adopted the attitude that I wont be keeping the car as something that will only be left in its (basic) original form, ie no real mods, go for it :D
This got me thinking that it would be cool to go higher than 2" but I am hesitant for a couple of reasons.
1. my engineer commented when I had the L series approved a while ago (with its 2" kit) that to go higher would be a concern for him and he may want extra bracing between the sub frame and the lift kit blocks which I gathered was something to do with stopping sideways movement of the blocks in relation to the sub frame.
2. as the lift kit blocks get higher the engine goes further and further down into the engine bay and this could cause issues like accessing engine bits for maintenance, exhaust and gearbox linkage problems etc. I am sticking with the EA81 at this stage as it only has 264 thousand ks so is still going well but an EJ conversion could occur as I could head towards a mid life crisis any year now so pending sanity/money/time/opportunity anything could happen but the EA81 will stay for now.

What experiences have people had with going higher that 2" with lift kits in an MY and/or a Brumby and are there any problems to be worked through.
