has anyone used 235/75/15 tyres on their L? (basically a 29" tire)
just curious as to the width if it'd cause any problems? any experiences on the sand with them?

The biggest tyred Ls I can think of:

And AndrewT and Fatz, but they've done stacks of custom work to make things fit.

since the 29"tyres look like a bit of a struggle with 15" rims, is it a much more comfrotable fit to have 29" tyres on a 14" rims-a also have a 4"lift kit going on soon.
cheers.
(didnt get a tone about 14" rims on those threads above)

Any reason for 29's over the traditional 27 ? Along with the problem of them actually fitting, what about the gearing??

there's 2 reasons i'm going with 15" wheels - 1 because i already have a set, and 2 because they are far more common than 14" wheels and thus give me more choice for less $$$
and yeah, will be doing some "body" work to make sure they fit w/o rubbing.
was more looking for a "this is how they go on the beach" type replies. i dont know if it's just me, but i think 215 is on the touch thin side for really soft sand - or am i wrong?

and gearing - going with 4.11 gears in the very near future

You don't need wide tyres for the beach. Tyre contact area is a function of inflation pressure and vehicle mass, so a skinny tyre at 15psi will float above the sand just as well as a wide tyre at 15psi (all other things being equal), but without pushing as large a frontal area.
BTW, 215mm is 8.5", which about a million Ls are using.

that's what i have now - 27x8.5/14, but since i'm changing to 15" wheels, i'm looking at every single option

you can fit the 29s on an L with 3" lift but you have to cut a fair bit out of the guards and have really good suspension. Alex managed this with his old WankyWagon. It did look a tad unbalanced, wheels too big for car. But it certainly worked really well offroad.

yeah pretty much solely concerned with offroad ability. i've got no prob with working the car to make it work. also, 235/75/15 looks like a very common size - was standard on the pajero's with 15" steelies

Andrew,
was that on a 15" rim?
and if so would 29's fit nicely on a 14" rim with a 4"lift(with minor, if any body work?)
otherwise i would just stick to 27's also
cheers

no can't get 29's on 14s. wouldnt make any difference anyway, the tyres are still 29" outer diameter regardless of the wheel diameter.
If you want to see Mr Top Hat's ones search for pics of Wanky Wagon (alex's old car). towards it's end it had those ones on it.
