wheel bearing

Post by kevmif » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:04 pm

So I replaced a wheel bearing on my Brumby a while ago (about a year, hasn't done much driving since)

Got it roadworthied today and apparently the wheel bearing is stuffed.

Only thing I can think of is that the steering knuckle itself is worn as the bearings were new. I even got a mechanic to press them in and grease them for me so I couldn't screw it up.

Thoughts?

make sure the hub nights are super tight

when they do road worthyness they usually just jack it up and give the wheel a jiggle.

loose hub nut will give the same feeling as a rooted bearing.

Thanks. Will pull the split pin out and try to tighten it.
