So is that 2 long and 6 short?? as 26 is not a normal code for the Subaru Automatic Transmission.

Most common issue the Subaru 4EAT gets is Duty Solenoid D which relates to the AWD system.

Are you getting any torque bind whilst turning sharply? How does the car drive?

Car is a front wheel drive.I get like a surge type feeling but not up in revs but like down on power.its not all the time but mostly on acceleration like a slip but its not slipping...its very hard to explain it.

Ok. 2WD then, I'm thinking there is break in a wire/solenoid in the system. Check all the plugs (mainly the 2 large ones at the top of the box) and make sure there is no water inside them. If that doesn't work, drain the fluid and remove the pan, clean/replace filter and check for any broken wires inside. If all good, replace pan and fill with new fluid.
