List of Subaru Engines ...

Post by Bantum » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:08 pm

Interested in a complete list of Engines from Subaru ?

I will try and compile a list here ... :) ... ( It might take a while though as there are a few )

Note : I've used references from Wikipeida, Subaru + others on here to compile the list.

So Subaru uses a four or five character code to identify all of their engines.
  • The first letter is nearly always E - Standing for Engine.
( Note : Only applies for Engines before the introduction of FB Engine series )
  • The second letter is the engine's family.
  • Next come two digits indicating the engine's displacement. ( Or revision before 1989 )
  • The optional fifth character is an identifier to mark revisions. ( Ex: turbo, DOHC, Fuel Injection, etc. )
Also after each engine type is a brief discription of what it is + vehicle used in ... :)

I've broken them down into the following categories :
Note : I've had to break up the list as it's far too long to fit on here ...
Hopefully the links will work to each section, let me know if they don't ... :)

This is a work in progress - Aim is it to include it in the Wiki page ( http://www.ausubaru.wikidot.com ) ... :D

Edits: Addies - 2 Oct 2012 ... Revised Headings add more Engines - 4 Oct 2012 ... Trying to fix links - 6 Oct 2012 ... Revised Layout + Links - 24 Oct 2012 ... Add Links - 6 Nov 2012 ... Revised references - 1 Dec 2012 ... Had to Split 4 Cylinder Engines to make room ... 6 Sep 2013 - Add Wiki link ...

Yeah, you beat me to it ... ... ( I've updated + added references to header now )

I wanted to have a fairly succinct list with out all the gumpf that other site has + will be adding a few other 'non' genuine Subaru engines not found elsewhere ... ;)

Feel free to suggest any that I've misssed or corrections to be made ... :)

Cheers,

Bantum

Another Subaru Engine...

Post by pitrack_1 » Fri Oct 05, 2012 2:40 pm

What, you left out my EE20 Diesel?! Sacrilege!!! And after all my moaning... :p

I assume you're limiting it to road-vehicular-type engines. Otherwise you could really go to town by trying to list by the (Robin) Subaru Industrial range... see Subaru Robin. One company at least is using them as bike-assist engines. There's an awful lot of old whipper-snipper types with them out there too. :-)

Is there any point including the EJ30, seeing it has never made it to a production car. There are stacks of prototype engines that could be included if you were going this way,.... like the DOHC and fuel injected EA81
You could elaborate on the EJ engine a bit, like defining the single turbo and twin turbo models, doch and soch variants and avcs and avls cam timing systems

The FA20 and FA20DIT are the bits you are missing from the FA section
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X
Ongoing Project/Toy: 1987 RX Turbo EA82T, Speeduino ECU, Coil-pack ignition, 440cc Injectors, KONI adjustale front struts, Hybrid L Series/ Liberty AWD 5sp
Past rides: 92 L series turbo converted wagon, 83 Leone GL Sedan, 2004 Liberty GT Sedan & 2001 Outback

Included in the list as it is an EJ motor ... ;)

Will do - adding more as I go ... :)

As there are many variants I may not be able to include them all, but willing to give it a go ... :)

Doh ...
... The text that you have entered is too long (10069 characters). Please shorten it to 10000 characters long ...
I was tyring to add more to the first page, but have come accross the limit ... :(

Can this be modified with room for extra characters ... ? Moderators ... ? Help ... :!

Think I might be able to break it up, but it would be spread out over several pages ... :(

Ok - will try this again by adding links to each catergory & see how that goes ... :(

EE20, Outback vs Forester versions

Post by pitrack_1 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 11:53 pm

I think the Forester diesel has a slightly lesser power output to the Outback diesel, 108kW vs 110kW. This is apparently due to differing exhaust systems. Dunno about the Impreza, You may wish to update the EE20 listing.
